Here are the highlights from the user feedback we received.

Most of the feedback was good but for the first time we’ve found some unhappy Lexus customers and the happy customers had no idea of any recalls on the car…

Dear 001,

I am responding to your question about the reliability of the GX 470. I have been driving one since March. It is my 6th Lexus and as with the other 5, it is completely problem free. Lexus makes one great car after another. Maybe some of your readers are just dying to find something wrong with the Lexus to make them feel better about their German cars!

Dear 001,

I guess I’ll get those done at my next service. I do not even know what they are. We’ve had zero problems.

Dear 001,

I recently purchased a GX 470 two months ago. I have put 2,300 miles on it and as of now, I have not had a single problem. This is my fourth Lexus and it completely lives up to its reputation. I would certainly like to know of any ongoing problems so I know what to look for.

Dear 001,

Yeah, the GX-470 is my very first Lexus and will be the last.

As far as Lexus is concerned their customer service line (1-800-25-LEXUS) is a joke and they know nothing.  Every time I have had to call them I feel as if they are reading off a script and have no actual knowledge of anything.

So far I have the following issues with the GX-470 itself....

1.) Vibration in the steering wheel in the 1200 - 2000 RPM range

2.) Air conditioner has gone out

3.) Outside temp. reader is erroneous and doesn't report correctly.

4.) Ordered by GX-470 with the tow package but it came in without it and was told by my salesperson that a class IV tow hitch would be available soon and not to worry.  Now am told they have no idea if or when a hitch will be available. So now I am stuck with this vehicle that I need to tow with, but can't because nobody has information on the status of the class IV hitch.

5.) Not to mention the other 3 recalls regarding gross weight, airbag issues, and clearance issues with the seats and the Nav.

Anyways, you asked, I answered.

Sincerely,

A very disgruntled first and LAST time Lexus owner.

Dear 001,

This is the most disappointed I have ever been in a car (or a car company).

The GX vibrates at 1,700 RPM and up and the drive train is extremely rough at highway speeds (although some of the roughness sometimes goes away).  I have not received any recall notices, although my car almost certainly has been recalled for the seat latch and/or suspension recalls.  Lexus finally, kind of, acknowledges that the vibration is a problem (after repeatedly telling me it was "normal" since the GX is a "truck"), but so far their "service" is limited to telling me they are working on a solution (I suspect if I told them I was working on paying them each month instead of sending a check, they would not be too happy).  In addition, there are minor issues (e.g., my thermometer always reads 74 degrees, even when it is 95 outside).

Based on my experience so far, this is my first and last Lexus -- back to BMW next time.

Dear 001,

Overall, love the truck, very smooth and quiet.  Handles like it is 1000 lbs lighter and the breaks are excellent.  Engine is powerful, and sweet to the ears although it would be nice if it had 25 more hp and 35 more lb ft of torque just for the hell of it.

Complaints:

The nav system and the "I agree" required.  I wrote a scathing letter to Lexus attached to my initial quality survey, heard the same thing is on the new A8.

Shifts are not so smooth, but this may be due to the 4wd system.
Sunroof pop up windblocker flaps like a bird wing at 60+ mph.  Will have it looked at initial service, but the same piece on my land cruiser has much greater tension at high speed and doesn't move a bit.

Dear 001,

We have had ours for 4,000 miles, and so far it has been perfect.

Dear 001,

First of all, my sister owns a GX and has had no problems. To be fair though, she has only had it for about 3 months.
