Introduction
BMW's newest interpretation of the 3 series.
Exterior Styling - 8
Tailight design is outdated and unoriginal.
Interior Styling - 6
Exterior Build/Materials Quality - 9
Interior Build/Materials Quality - 7
Engine Performance - 10
Small twin turbos mated to the famed inline 6 from Bavaria.
Handling/Braking - 9
Power without poise and control mean nothing. Superior handling and feel are part of the BMW legacy, so I'm a little disappointed in the fact they adopted run flat technology. My advice to BMW. No more run flat technology.
Fuel Efficiency - 6
Not that it matters, but if you were concerned with fuel efficiency, I recommend buying a Prius.
Available Features/Options - 10
Park Distance Control: Not necessary.
Active Cruise Control: Not necessary.
Active Steering: If you get this option, get your head checked.
Sport Package: Upgraded suspension, wheels, and sport seats are a must!!
Cost of Ownership - 10
Free maintenance for three years with the exception of tires. Be forewarned, Run flats run you close to $500 a pop at the dealership and the tread life is horribly short. Might actually be a blessing in that you can switch the tires for Michelin PS2.
Value - 9
Not perfect by any means, but it gets me from point A to B pretty damn quick!
Conclusion
There's no question about it, the 335i is a great car, but it is far from perfect. I'm no BMW fanboy. I know what I like and what I don't like. The performance is fantastic. And I dare anyone to make the argument that it isn't. The interior is a far different story. I prefer the interior design and layout of both the Lexus and Audi. But what the 335 lacks in interior appeal it makes up for in sheer horsepower and acceleration.
