2007 Mercedes Benz CL-class (CL500, CL600) Review
Mercedes-Benz has officially revealed the new Mercedes Benz CL-class luxury coupe. The CL-class is a two-door coupe based on the Mercedes Benz S-class, and you know the world is starting to get ridiculous when I have to specifically say a coupe is two-door in order not to confuse it with “four-door coupes” like the Mercedes Benz CLS. More details after the jump. Read Article

No one has ever seen an LS coupe, as one does not exist.
Moron.

Yea but the LS is not a CL competitor. It's not even a coupe. Lexus doesn't have a competitor to this. One thing Lexus needs to do already is change the styling of the IS-F. It looks awesome! but for a luxury brand it defeats the purpose. The good thing about AMG is that they still maintain the luxurious looks of a typical MB.

SHOWTIME, I guess you haven't seen one in person.

You'll be shocked at how powerful this car is!

I think it's one of the most beautiful.
Better than anything that's come out of BMW recently anyway.

I agree with you completely but it's the best coupe in the world within this segment. However, I do think the CL600 is capable of competing with the Bentley GT but I'm pretty sure most would go for the Bentley for 'image' purposes. However in this case the CL600 is more understated and for some consumers that may be what their looking for.

The CL is brilliant and is really comfortable to drive. I had the chance to test drive one when i was getting my car serviced. Absolutely smooth just like the S-Class. It sounds nice as well. I would highly recommend this car. It's like no other. It's a rare Mercedes as well because you see more SL's and CLK's out there than this CL. This makes it even a better alternative to get than the SL especially if you want a higher level of luxury. IMO this is the pinnacle of the Mercedes brand. It's the most luxurious coupe in the lineup.

I'd say the CL600 and Conti GT are direct competitors. It's about a $15K difference between the two, if I remember. And, with all the "custom" options most would order on the CL, it over-reaches $150K quicker than you can say "twin-turbocharged vee twelve."

"I agree with you completely but it's the best coupe in the world within this segment."

LOL, doesn't really make sense.

Saw one in Ft. Lauderdale the other day. It looked like it got fat and lost its appeal, to me, anyway. The last generation looks a lot better in my opinion.

the last gen looked better?! an awkward E-class front pasted to a mix between an S-class and C-class rear..

that obviously was NOT beautiful.

REally, the new cl-class is much classier than the last one.

You have to wonder about the quality of the writer, when he mentions items like the "new" CL55. Is he the food critic when not writing car reviews ?

Well, I dont think this was a review. More of a regurgitation of the press release materials. Pretty worthless IMO. I'll wait till the magazines get their hands on it.

I was in the dealershipa few weeks ago getting my CLK serviced and they had a pewter colored CL550 on the floor. It was beautiful in person. The interior is just gorgeous. I loved the silver buttons. The interior would have sold me on the car if I had 118,000 to spare for a car.

I feel the same way about the S-Class. My wife is interested in getting one (in EIGHT MONTHS), so for fun, while she was shopping, my son and I went to Mercedes-Benz of Beverly Hills and drove an S550. BTW, this was over our vacation. We don't often drive cars for fun at home... I'm usually working.

But the car blew me away. Not just the super-smooth engine, superb transmission or even the beauty of its exterior.

But the opulence. The sumptuous leather, the metal buttons (I noticed those, too!), the fluidity of everything in the car. The way it makes you feel when you're driving it. Very little touches, such as how both rear-seat riders can control both rear windows, and they can also both control the rear sunshade. The way the screen is able to rotate towards the driver or the passenger. The way the keypad is fashionably hidden by a leather handrest.

I could go on, and on. Hopefully, I'll work up the courage to buy a $100,000 car by next year. If not, I'll lease one!

Well, if it's $70K more, wouldn't you expect that?

IMO this one is more modern and fresh, but the Conti is a beauty, too.

The Bentley is nicer but believe me the CL is up there as well. Side by side the CL doesn't look that much cheaper than the Bentley GT. They're both motor engineering marvels respectively. The Bentley is more attention hungry than the CL. The Merc is a head turner as well just not as hungry for the looks. Both you get major respect.

You haven't seen it in person.

When I saw the first pictures of it, I thought it was hideous.

But in person... wow. It's rolling art.

Shmikes,

You obviously haven't seen it in person or sat in the car, felt the interior or heard the sound this car produces. It's of high quality and prestige. Don't be too quick to judge.

Actually, the Bentley is in another market but this CL is pretty darn close if you want a more understated high level of luxury. Not often do I get to say Mercedes is understated but alongside the GT it is.
