2010 Jaguar XJ Gets Scooped!

IT’s the big cat that’s got bosses full of pride! Jaguar insiders have been talking about the new XJ for months – and, with these pictures, we can finally see why they’ve been so excited.

This is our best look yet at the car described by Jaguar as one of the most radical it has ever produced. The new flagship limousine, set to make its world debut in July, has a bold shape designed to draw the limelight away from the Mercedes S-Class and BMW’s latest 7-Series.

In addition to its striking body, the new XJ will benefit from a futuristic interior, along with a range of more powerful, hi-tech engines.

As you can see, the model takes themes first seen on the widely acclaimed XF – Auto Express’s current Car of the Year – and makes them even more dramatic. The stylish nose adds larger air intakes to the aircraft-inspired grille and angular headlights, while the sporty, coupé-like roofline slopes towards the boot at a more rakish angle than on the XF.

this is hot I dont know what you guys are talking about. they needed to change the XJ it was pretty much the same shape for 20 years. I am glad they revamped this model.....llooks kinda like the XF but you can definitley tell its not an XF. good job jaguar

I like previous Jags as well, not more than those from XF/XK era but I do. It doesn't matter though, they didn't sell.

I expected the XJ being more distinguishable from the XF. Apparently though, Audi disease of making every car look exactly the same is very contagious. People seem to like cars that are just the same. So Indians (Jaguar is now an Indian company) deliver.

Those headlights are very similar in shape and proportion to those on the Mercedes S Class.

The new XJ WILL NOT look like this. The lights are from the previous Mondeo and the silhoutte just cannot be from an XJ - Check out the C-pillar. This is a pretty bad photoshop. However, he 375+ and 510+ horsepower engines and lightweight Aluminum (Aluminium for British cousins) construction that should eat the Germans' performance car lunch like they did in Battle of Britain in World War2, circa 1940.

Spitfire was the best plane of the war along with of course the American P51 Mustang, ironically which also became exceptional due to the British Rolls-Royce Merlin Engines.

i want to see interior shots before posting my final judgment. as for now, the exterior is way to similar to the xf, and the rear tail lights aren't that attractive in my opinion...shame.

The proportions seems really different from the scoop shots where the car is in disguise, so this may just be someone messing around on Photoshop. Nonetheless, this is a fine looking machine, and a real A8/S-Class/7-series competitor.

The XF interior is great, so I can't wait to see the new XJ interior.

Something I have noticed about the XF is that it looks much better in the flesh than in photos, and I wonder if the new XJ will be the same.

Though the new Jags are "edgy" in style and design, they still seem to be "dressed up versions of a Lincoln MkS". Hopefully, in their next gen form, both the XJ and XF will be redesigned to further distance the brand from it's Ford ownership history.

The next XJ should be as stately as a Bentley, but only as expensive as a mid-level S-classe.

being as stately as a bentley would make it less sporty than a jaguar. i think jag's identity is somewhere between porsche and bentley; not as sporty as porsche, but not as luxurious as bentley. its a good middle ground.

I thought the XF was supposed to be the sporty model? The XJ, in the past, has been the brand's flagship model and should be less sporty in its standard form. There's nothing wrong with sporty/performance trim options, but most of their attention should focus on luxury aspects foremost.

all jaguars are supposed to be the sporty model. the xj was the only sedan offered until 2000, so it served double duty. until the late 90's you could get an xj with a manual transmission and a i-6 engine; they had coupe-like roof lines (not the best idea for backseat luxury).

eventually the xj became the flagship, and yes was more luxurious than the smaller ones. but around that same time, they also started using aluminum for the bodies of the xj...making them sportier. just for reference, the v6 xj weighed around 3400 lbs (about the same as a 1-series!).

don't get me wrong, the xj is quite luxurious. but its also quite sporty. the next generation will continue that tradition (with updated styling).

excuse me? the most recent generation of the XJ was "sporty"? OK, when they threw in the supercharged V8, it had a lot more muscle, but sporty...no. maybe to say it was "sporting" would be a better description. Ford failed at providing a sufficiently polarizing exterior design for a vehicle that utilized such a lightweight platform & body. had more attention been given to that technology, it may have given way to more aluminum models and more efficient manufacturing methods to be truly profitable and popular.

I'd prefer the traditional design. The new XJ is allright but is doesn't have that certain signature classic look. Hopefully Jag would re-think their new design concept.

Jaguar can do no wrong these days, XF & XK are the most desireable cars in there classes, this new XJ looks like it will do the same, great job by Jaguar :)

Round off the lights and it's good to go!. They should take the headlights from the outgoing model and refine it onto the new one giving it a new modern flavor.

This is, quite obviously, a Photoshop. As was already pointed out, the c-pillar between the two images does not really match. As such it is ancillary whether or not anyone happens to like it.
What I have read on the subject would suggest that it is too similar in appearance to the XF. The grille shape is off- we have already seen it tacked on to a current version test mule, and the bottom is not a straight line.
As far as the interior, it is supposed to be quite spectacular- with widespread use of proximity sensors and suspended backlit sheet of glass. One of the less talked about descriptions I have read that the interior is “Very different from the XF. The control screen, shift knob and door handles are the only carry overs. Massive wood door trim swoops around the dash and narrows very close to the windshield. A cockpit design with a wide center seperating the driver and passager, it is easily the best looking interior of any car I’ve seen.”

I am glad they are returning to the stance of the original XJ with the new one, at least that appears to be the case, the latest generation was a step away from that.
