We've been hearing rumors about Lexus' first dedicated hybrid model for quite a while now, but today, the Japanese automaker officially confirmed that the all-new HS 250h will make its worldwide debut at next month's 2009 North American International Auto Show in Detroit.

Lexus has not disclosed any official information whatsoever on the HS 250h, but according to the grapevine, the dedicated hybrid sedan will be similar in size to the company's IS Sedan

where do people like you come from Chuck? so lexus sucks because of doing the same thing that everyone does, making diesels that will always consume oil, they try to start a revolution?

yeah the first generation hybrids are not super efficient. but nothing is great in its first generation. I'm sure we'll see plug in hybrids from Lexus very soon that will completely smoke the diesels.

Chuck, please take a look at the sales of the RX400h in Europe and tell me what you think. Also, why is Lexus only going to offer the RX450h in Europe when it goes on sale? How do you figure a small car with a hybrid drivetrain could be a gas guzzler. Now, I am a fan of Nissan and Infiniti but I guarantee soon Nissan will come out with a hybrid. Now go take your medication to control your tourette's outbursts.

No, that can't be 'finessed' into a moderately attractive sedan. Luckily, it isn't a hatchback.

when it's revealed this car will get close to 40 mpg, all the snide comments will dissipate.

OR turn to SNIVELING comments about how diesels are more efficient. never mind that the higher costs wipes out any mpg advantage.

it needs to get 50 to be relevant in europe (and europe is why Lexus is making this thing)

Lexus better be working on a next generation GS plug in hybrid. If not I'm buying the Fisker Karma though it will be hard to find 22 inch winter tires

considering how lexus names their hybrids, this could have a gas engine of just 1.5 - 1.8 liters, like the prius. many prius owners DO GET 50 mpg.

You didn't really make a point, as much as you strung together a bunch of illogical phrases. In any case, I've actually driven three generations of the Q and two LS sedans, and I can see how and why Nissan's 'luxury' ended in failure.

Perhaps they can bring back the Johnathan Pryce commercials.

No, the Q was a sales/marketing failure for Nissan. A pretentious natured-theme ad campaign wasn't enough to save that ugly, grilled Q sedan. The LS propelled Lexus to the top of luxury car sales before its first redesign.

Although Toyota and Lexus share many parts I would say they are no longer rebadged Toyotas. HOWEVER, Infiniti's are rebadged Nissan's but who cares about that right?.

screw the Q45, it's just a never was and never will be. infiniti's are just rebadged datsuns. ur g37 sucks and u got ripped off for paying too much for your nissan. go get nissans only economy sports car the 370z. why pay more when the new interior is the same or even better. who wants fake aluminum bits chuck? your car is made of cheap crap that no one wants.

No, the first LS actually lead to Lexus overtaking Acura and Infiniti by 1993, five years before the RX would be introduced.

The first Q45 was nothing more than an oversized land yatch and featured stretches of black plastic and hard 'leather' seats as luxury amenities. Meanwhile, Toyota launched a warm interpretation of luxury and comfort with its LS and for $2-5k less than Nissan's boat.

Are you that clueless as to why Nissan failed so hard?

The first Lexus LS was a true luxury car on par with Mercedes S class of that day. Easily. All the tests at that time said so, and they were correct.

Infiniti has never been able to make a good luxury car. All they do is make a bunch of rebadged Nissan Primeras

every knowledgable person knows the ES300/350 is based on the same platform as the camry.

HOWEVER, a generation or two back, toyota designed the new model to be A LEXUS. then made adaptions for a 4-cyl model, and de-contenting, for the camry.

so in fact, the CAMRY was a re-badged LEXUS. which explains why its high sales took off even more.

This car needs to have the same drive train Prius has if Lexus wants it to compete with the likes of BMW 316d in europe. At least 50 mpg american.

I guess this car will not have lithium ion until 2010? Once Lexus comes out with a plug in hybrid with lithium ion batteries for a decent price, the diesel dominance in europe will be OVER

I'm sure many of the Toyota Prius owners will find themselves upgrading to this car. However, for IS/ES owners they will stick to those. I still don't find the purpose of having an ES in their lineup besides the fact many elders like the car and I'm not too sure about the HS either.

IS = entry level
GS = mid/full-size
LS = flagship
SC = sports coupe (NOT)

Good lord. About 85% of these comments are merely insulting other posters or unintelligently dismissing the article completely. If BMW released the same car, everyone would be praising it.

I think the "photo" is obviously a Photoshop creation, not an official picture of the production version. I give Lexus credit for acknowledging there might be a market for a "luxury" car that gets decent gas mileage. It's time to wake up and realize the equation needs to start shifting from using all engine/drivetrain advancements to merely increase horsepower to improving fuel economy.
