I agree. Should line up pretty well against Volvo's S60R. However, I think it's a little underpowered for that size engine.

Underpowered? Pray tell, how many cars with a compareble sized engine can you name that produce more power.

Just a little underpowered. Middle of the pack numbers. I can always wish for the numbers to be better right?

Better hp/L:
BMW 3.0L 111 (M3)
Infiniti 3.7L 89.2
Lexus 3.5L 87.4
Acura 3.5L 82.9
Audi 3.2L (A5) 82.8

VW's 3.6L: 82.2

Worse hp/L:
Audi 3.2L (A4) 79.7
BMW 3.0L (328i) 76.6
MB 3.5L 76.6
Honda 3.5L 76.6
Toyota 3.5L 76.6 (seems to be a popular ratio)

actually the 333bhp (US) s54 engine from the e46 gen3 m3 displaces 3246cc.

Well, considering this is a top of the line model with a 3.6 litre engine. Whereass the A5 V6 displaces "only" 3.2 litres and is aimed at different competitors it's quite understandable why the A5 hasn't got 300hp.

The R36 comes a bit late to the party to have a halo effect on the Passat line. They should R the Passat CC, but from the get-go.

I really don't know what it's competing against at that price... If it was cheaper it would make a great competitor to the Acura TL Type-S.
