Ford Motor Co.’s new aluminum-bodied F-150 pickup earned the highest possible score in its first government crash test safety rating.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration gave the 2015 truck five stars in its New Car Assessment Program, thanks to features including inflatable rear safety belts, lane control technology and advanced air bags.

“The five-star safety rating is a terrific example of One Ford collaboration and innovation,” said Raj Nair, Ford’s product chief, in a statement. “Our truck team worked together for years to deliver this accomplishment, using an unprecedented combination of advanced materials throughout the all-new F-150.”
