General Motors Co. said Wednesday it is recalling another 218,000 vehicles in two new campaigns for faulty components in daytime running lights that could cause a fire.

With the new recalls, GM has recalled nearly 13.8 million vehicles in the United States in 29 campaigns —a yearly record for GM — and more than 15.7 million vehicles worldwide. GM has announced 10 new recalls and expanded another campaign since Thursday as the automaker works to put any outstanding safety issues behind it. By contrast, GM recalled 757,000 vehicles in all of 2013.

GM said it is recalling 218,000 2004-08 Chevrolet Aveo small cars equipped with daytime running lights. GM said there may be heat generated within the running lights module located in the center console in the instrument panel, which could melt the module and lead to a fire.
