Audi R8 is destroyed after fuel spillage caused fire
I think it's a shame for Audi to have these things happened to what can be considered its flagship. And that's not all, it look like several R8 prototypes also caught on fire while in development. But this wasn't no test car, it was a production model which is now only a wreck.

If you read the post you would realise this problem has already been solved, and will never happen again.
This car was a test car as well, a pre-production model, and the problem is gone for all production R8s.
It is apparently a simple software update.
So yeah bulldogz, it is abnormal, Audis are very reliable, but I doubt Lexus was there.
iepurilah, read the next 2 pages on that talk board for a better explanation, the initial post is wrong.

bulldogz, that why I said read therest of the article.
Further investigation reveals that this is
A) A test car (we can tell be the serial number)
B) A car that hasn't had the fix like it should have
C) That this will never happen again.

I don't understand why my fellow Lexus owners feel the need to trash Audi. Do you need justification for owning a car thats more of a poser than a driver? Is it a lack self confidence in your purchase? I own a Lexus and I still love Audis.
I'm confident that you haters of Audi have never owned one because you would understand why people love them so. I love my Lexus but it doesn't seem to grab my soul like my Audis. So please stop embarassing yourself with the spewing of hatred toward a car that you know nothing about.

Where are the German fanboys now? it really quite here for some reason? I'm really disspointed with Audi lately, first the their test prototype Audi R8/R10 catch on fire. And now this production Audi R8 catch on fire?
So much for German superiority ha....is this what you can heritage or prestige? yeah right, heritage my a$$... What a piece of trash, this car is cost up to $120+k and now is in flame.
Even a Kia/Hyundai last longer than this piece of crap, Audi fanboys read my lipp Audi will NEVER be as realible as Toyota and Lexus.
Yeah that right I'm going to a big deal about it because this car suppose to in the supercar league. And if this was a Lexus LF-A you German fanboys will flame it to death. So I'm just doing the opposite, I guess the Audi R8 will be off many shopper list now. Might as well wait for the more power and faster Lexus LF-A with 570 hp.
Audi R8=inferior, unrealiable, cheap ripp off Lambo, Audi you really need to include a fire extinguisher on your Audi R8 to prevent this from happening again.

The Lexus LF-A will be the new class leader for sure. Quality and the extensive racing heritage Lexus has are going to make it a killer.

Don't give me the gears. Engine fires happen occasionally to all makes. Gasoline can catch fire if spilled directly on a hot exhaust manifold but the top of the engine never reaches those high temperatures. I wonder how many car fires are casued by people smoking while handling gasoline around a car.
I once put layers of store-bought foam rubber between a 4-cylinder engine and the hood to see how quiet I could make it run on the highway. Noise redution was significant. Everyone told me that the foam would catsh fire but it never did.

It would be better if you kept it shut.
Ofcourse you havent heard about the transmission problem in the all new camry yet because toyota can really keep stuff quiet. Or have you heard of the computer problem in the all new Toyota Aurion? I guess not! So better keep it shut. Thank you.
P.S My uncle has a GS430 2006 model and guess what? He had to change the transmission too, why? Because it broke down. Too much for your Lexus being problem free right?
Told you better keep it quiet if you have nothing good to say ;)

I own a Lexus IS 350 and I can't wait to get back in an Audi. This car is great in so many ways but it is lacking in many ways also. It's a poser and not for real driving. Fast but BORING.
I don't understand why you feel the need to trash Audi just because you are driving a Lexus. I'm confident that you have never owned one because you would understand why people love them so. I have had both and my hat tips to Audi, not my Lexus.

Audis have no such history. The only well-publicised engine fire problem I recall in the last 20 years or so concerned the fairly frequent engine fires in the Pontiac Fiero. Perhaps the Pontiac marketing guys had a premonition about these fires and named the car "Fiero" accordingly.

Lexus Admirer, that is a negligible amount of fire history for the time that Audi and its predecessor companies have been around. I suppose that Toyota or Lexus have never ever had an engine fire. It seems that the media loves to make a mountain out of a mole hill. Disaster, misfortune and scandal sell newspapers and increase TV ratings among the lower classes.

I have to agree that no car is invincible, not even the Mercedes S-Class in which Lady Di died. However, in fairness to Mercedes, the rear passengers in that crash were said not to have been wearing their seat belts and the French medical system took an extraordinary amount of time to get initial survivors to the hospital. Whenever something like the R8 fire happens, people rush to judgement and demonize the car when the underlying problem may have nothing to do with the car at all.

Come on Lexus fanbois, wake up, if anything was perfect in this world, don't you think somebody will have noticed by now.
Nothing and nobody is perfect, not a lexus, not a Toyota, not an Audi, not even a BMW.

It's always a good idea to carry a fire extinguisher in the car (any car) -- you never know when you can be a good samaritan and put out some poor motorist's engine fire. Of course there is always the risk of getting cursed for it in cases where the owner of the flaming car wants to collect the insurance but it could save a life in some cases.

If the BMW keep on overheating and plague with electronic problem. And if Audi cars keep catching flame like this, the Japanese, Korean,American, Chinese and Indian auto company will take over for sure.
Isn't the Hyundai is in the process making an Audi TT killer? I would not be surprise if they come with an Audi A8 killer also.

Actually they're in the process of making a Lexus LS killer.
This was a pre-production model, the fault has been fixed for production, read the whole article.
The over-heating problem with the 335i was limited to pre-march production cars and BMW's aren't "plagued" with electrical problems, BMW's on average suffer 1.8 faults over the first 3 years and Lexi suffer 1.5 according to JD Power. Woop de doo, 0.3 less faults over 3 years....

From a 2007 Toyota owners perspective, on Toyota reliability:
My brand new '07 Camry V6 XLE has engine misfires from hell that keep activating the VSC and I have to pullover and restart the engine just so the VSC disengages the brakes. This is the 3rd time on record; one more time and I'm pursuing a lemon law on this piece of sh*t.
The VSC is a totally different issue too. I lost traction on wet pavement and the VSC came on, but wouldn't disengage. I scorched the brake pads hoping the damn system would disengage after a half mile, then pulled over to restart the engine.
If I can successfully lemon law this POS, I'm going back to owning a Nissan. I owned a first model year 2002 Altima 3.5 V6, that had absolutely no issues in the 70k miles I owned it; and it felt faster to boot.

This proves a few things:
-knowledge is power
-Toyotas do catch on fire and are recalled by 1000's
-a Lexus is a toyota since a Lexus will be sold under the toyota name elsewhere than in the USA
Therefore I wish to claim a stop on the rebadge flame war, as no Audis are sold as Volkswagen anywhere in the world.
So as long as I am visiting this website, any Lexus fanbois that will dare call a AUDI a rebadged VW, I will post a toyota harrier picture, or a toyota excelsior (LS430)...LOL

So I'm done here, everyone know Lexus make more realible cars than Audi, period. That is why Lexus is more prestige and popular than Audi in the U.S. The only reason why Audi done so well globally is because they been around longer, those people buying for it heritage not quality.

lexus admirer
you are too much man, you post a link where Audi have sludge problems, when Lexus has encountered the same proble, see my links posted earlier.
What does that prove? Lexus=Audi
See, nothing is perfect in this world. Nobody is neither.
If you could read and comprehend what some of us post, you will understand that nobody is saying that Audi is perfect, to the contrary of you and a few other that are trying to convince us that Toyota are the best and that Lexus are perfect.
All things consider, surfing the net, it seems that Audi and Lexus fair better than BMW and M-benz though.
What remain almost certain is that Lexuses are sold or have been sold as Toyotas in other market, that the Lexus quality is high but that deep down it is still a japanese mass produce Toyota and if you neat pick you will find where they cut corners. The accountant have too much to say in the name of profitability, when Audi is more of an "engineer" type brand and they rarely cut corners.
If the american perception of luxury puts Lexus in front of Audi, that is more a reflexion of heavy branding and marketing, and I will agree that Audi marketing absolutely sucks.
There is no doubt in my mind, having sold both brands that Audi appeals to the car enthusiast and young crowd, when lexus appeals more to the older and not-so-knowledgeable crowd.
By experience, I can assure you that Audi will sell a lot more car if they had stronger financing too. i am not counting the number of times where prospects come to my lot and really want an A6 or an A8, but can not afford it and go to BMW, Benz or Lexus.
On the other hand, is Audi on the right path in keeping high price leases? Isn't the true meaning of luxury something that not everybody can afford? This remain to be seen and is an entirely different debate.
