Audi R8 tested exclusively by CAR Magazine
The Audi R8 has now officially been tested by the team at CAR magazine. It is a British magazine granted exclusive first drive rights to the R8.
The magazine has published an 11 page article in its December issue, available now, regarding the R8 and answers questions about how similar the R8 drives to the Lamborghini Gallardo, and if it is indeed better than the 911.
If anyone has a subscription to CAR magazine or has the actual magazine, it would be great if you could post the article, as it will allow the Audi supporters on this website to go absolutely WILD.
The anticipation builds as the first drive of Audi's iconic supercar is now available to readers.

RE-engineered, Will?
What BMW or MB would the R8 be RE-engineering?
Don't say the SLR please due to the insane price tag.
If you say Audi is guilty of re-engineering a Lamborghini, that's a GREAT thing.
Are you saying the Gallardo is a bad car or a poor man's car Will?
It most certainly isn't due to it's striking looks (much more exotic looking than the F430 and with a price tag to match)

R8 has almost nothing in common with lambo... NOTHING... ask Audi directors if u dont believe me
Or check its chasis...ASF

I dont know why u "de-boosted" me, but it is true... just because some a*s predicts its based on the lambo, i dont know how more than half of the car community believes that... sure gearbox is BASED on the lambo's, but u dont have to order that if u dont want to
U guys are sad

Audi isn't RE-engineering a SINGLE Benz or BMW.
The R8 is a mid-engined, two seater with performance as its main purpose.
The closest thing from MB is the SL55 AMG, which is sport-oriented version of the luxury-roadster designed SL. Therefore, the SL55 AMG is based on a luxury platform.
The BMW M6 is essentially the same thing from BMW. The M6 is the sport-oriented or "M" version of the luxury-roadster designed 6-series. Yes, the 6-series is more sport-oriented than the Mercedes SL, but at the same time it doesn't have that raw performance design the way a Porsche 911 or Audi R8 would have.
The R8 has successfulyl CREATED a class of car for BMW and Merrcedes-Benz to copy. That would be a mid-engined, two-seater with all-out performance as it's main design philosophy priced at the $95-125K price range.

The 911 in the same breadth as an R8? C'mon you have got to be kidding.
The only 911 worth mentioning is the Turbo, Turbo S, GT3 and GT2.
All others are your regular versions of the Carrera are mere faux-sports cars.
Also, the R8 and 911 were both developed with performance as their key attributes. Notice how the M6 and SL55 were not. AmazingBimmer.
AmazingBimmer you need to re-learn the design philosophy of certain cars from BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Porsche and Audi.
You are clearly unaware of the fact that the SL was designed to be a luxury roadster, the 6-series also a luxury roadster witha bit more emphasis on sport than the Mercedes SL.
The SL55 and M6 are just uprated and sportier versions of luxur roadsters.
The 911 is built as a sports-car first and luxury car second.
The same with the R8.
Sad that a member on this site can't tell the basic philosophic differences between such common brands as BMW, Audi, Porsche and Mercedes-Benz.
Why do you have "Bimmer" in your username, oh yeah I forgot you must be a yuppy that knows diddly squat about cars, and our also a BMW driver. How ironic.

that last post was filled with grammatical errors. You do realize though that you don't know jack shit about cars AmazingBimmer if you can't find the reason why I put the R8 and the 911 in the same category.
Go learn a thing or two about cars and then come talk to me.

Well from day 1,i believe the R8 is a good car and great addition to the the Audi Line-up,after all this is required, these big steps are need to be taken once Audi has decided to re-build the brand.
All in all, everything is fine with R8,i am just concerning more on what no's CAR comes out with in acceleration especially.0-60 ???
Will they be able to get any lower than 4.6 sec or no ???
If yes...wonderful
If no....acceptable,fine.....After all great no's are expected from the V10 variant.

"Will they be able to get any lower than 4.6 sec or no ???

Yes, Audi always underestimates their 0-60 times. The S4's original time on the Audi site was 5.6 seconds, and I've seen it been done in 5.0 seconds flat, or even a little less (4.9 at the quickest).
I would expect the average time for the R8 to be 4.0-4.3 seconds, and there's always going to be that one magazine that somehow gets it to go from 0-60mph in under four seconds.

Now that CAR magazine has proven that there will be a V10 version of the R8, that car will easily post 0-60 numbers below 4.0 seconds and will DEFINITELY mand-handle any BMW at the Ring.

Lol germannut stop being petty. BMW doesn't have a competitor to the R8 so it's stupid to compare. If you love equating the R8 to a 911 (which you can rightfully so), then realize that noone out there compares 911's to BMW's. Same logic applies to R8.

The V10 R8 will surely raise hell on the Ring. Look for it's times to be in the range of the Corvette Z06, Ferrari F430, Porsche 911 Turbo and many other truly exotic performance cars.

And the R8 doesn't have a run-of-the-mill Audi interior. Look closely-- there's ribbons of carbon fiber sculpted around the gauges and the control panel. It would look very cool in light colors. I have to drive it when it comes on sale.

I don't have the article and therefore don't have access to the information.
What I do know is the V10 R8 is going to rip any BMW apart on the Ring and in straight-line acceleration as well. That goes for the M3, M5, M6 and M3 CSL.
