BMW 1-series spied in California!!
Although BMW’s 1-series coupe isn’t expected to arrive on U.S. shores until sometime during the 2008 calendar year, an amateur photographer stumbled upon this photo shoot in California. The 'garage bag and tape dressing' was just temporary – it was there to hide the details and name badges up until the lighting was perfected – and then it would be quickly removed and beauty shots would be taken.

Even though these shots aren’t as clear and close as we’d like, they show – for the very first time – details surrounding the C-pillar and the rear quarter window. But unfortunately the camera crew involved with this BMW brochure shoot is giving professional photographers everywhere a bad rap: the amateur who shot these, armed with only a small point-and-shoot, was forced to lock himself in his automobile as one of the production crew members started to – as he described it - violently pound on the man’s car – both on the sheetmetal and glass! He was lucky to get these two pictures, and to escape without injury!

Engine options for the stylish 1-series Coupe have yet to be confirmed, but BMW officials have said they do not plan to offer a four-cylinder engine in America – although we believe they will be available in European markets. But we are expecting a version of the magnesium/aluminium 3.0-litre six-cylinder that is currently found in the 130i, as well as the 3- and 5-Series, Z4 Coupe and Roadster, and X3 and X5. There is also a strong possibility the 3.0-litre turbo-charged six from the 335i coupe and sedan could find its way into an M version of the 1-Series Coupe.

Among driving enthusiasts, there is strong sentiment that the 3-Series Coupe has grown too large and luxurious to be a true sports coupe. Many of them long for a smaller, simpler car with the driving dynamics BMW has become known for. The 1-Series coupe could possibly deliver on that desire, all the while holding its head high as a true BMW.

Man, I saw a Z4 last night that burned to the ground CrispyCreme donut shop I visit on my way home from work. Guy told me that he turned the key and the hood blew right off the front of the car and immediately sparked a huge fire. Once he was done giving the police report and the insurance adjuster was through, I gave him a ride home in my ES250. He was so impressed it was all he was talking about the whole ride home. He was going on and on about how nice the materials were and how the impeccable build quality was 1 million times better than his cheapass BMW. he even had his wife come out and look at my car and she was so impressed with the car, she said she wouldn't mind having one for herself instead of the BMW X3 that she usually drove. I don't blame her, if I had a miserable unreliable POS like a X3, i'd want out of it fast as well!

And to get back on topic, I really think this car is going to have a hard time being mentioned in the same breath as the ES cars. Unless you are a chick, you'll have no appreciation for it

The ES and the 1 Series would never be mentioned in the same breath because they have nothing to do with each other. Lexus has nothing that would compete with the 1 Series. The ES is a FWD 4 door Lexus Buick and the 1 Series is a sporting RWD B segment coupe. What could have possibly lead you to compare these two vehicles??

Yes, and last night i saw a 460 try to park itself and it miss the mark, rolled down the embankment and low and behold ended rightside up in front of a BMW dealership, just in time to be traded in?

They make ES 250's? haha I never even heard of that model number. Only 300,330, and 350. Is your ES250 a model from the 90's? then I highly doubt the quality is better than an X3. If it is an old Lexus then it's not a Lexus at all. In other words your words about Lexus quality is not credible and are all baseless information because you don't own a 'real' Lexus to even know how one feels. Your ES 250 is a Toyota.

Why inrtoduce this lower-end model in North America? Prestige takes a hit again.

It may be a lower-end model but prestige is not taking a hit. They are introducing it to compete with other automakers in a price range where BMW currently has no vehicles.

There are probably quite a few out there. I live in Michigan and worked at the local BMW dealership until just last week; there has been a 120i sitting in the service lot with a manufacturer's plate on it for about a month or so.
