BMW M5 Sets new cannon ball run record?
Alex Roy has a crazy dream: to beat the legendary Cannonball Run record by crossing the country in under 32 hours and 7 minutes. Floor it! And so the clock starts and the taillights flare, and they're off again, strapped down, fueled up, and bound on an outlaw enterprise with 2,795 miles of interstate and some 31,000 highway cops between them and the all-time speed record for crossing the American continent on four wheels. wonder if it would be possible to get all of the various governments to agree to a legal (ie: roads shut down for a few hours in each area with absolutely 0 innocent bystanders around) cannon ball run. My guess is next to none, but it could be a huge media event that brings quite a bit of tourism to the states involved.

Cannonball is legendary, you are amongst the craziest people and race enthusiast's amongst the planet. It takes certain types of people to manage the gumball. These are certainly not idiot ricers, I will be joining these elite crazy mofo's, I am certainly NO ricer!

Yep

The RS6 would be the Perfect Vehicle for such a run. The Quattro system would be a huge asset for the wet/slippery sections of the race. If they used the RS6 Avant they would be able to fit an even larger fuel tank for fewer fuel stops.

That Alex Roy guy is quite a nutter. That must have been quite an Adrenalin Rush. I regularly do the Miami- Manhattan run in approx 16hrs and i tell you, its nerve racking all the way to the end. but worth it every time.
(Do not make a habit of it anymore as my UK license thing is not cutting it anymore:-)

I WILL NOT MISS THE NEXT ONE

I get regular email updates on the rally and Vehicle Rental prices for the rally (Alex Roy runs a rental service for the Gumball & Bullrun)
They deliver the vehicle to the start of the race, you race to the end and they collect the vehicle at the end so you do not have to worry about the return drive.

Here is a link to The Gumball website.

And the Vehicle Hire company

Was all ready to do this year's Bullrun but my best friend decided to get married in London on the same week as the Rally.

I want to sign up for the Gumball but my friend wants us to do the BullRun instead (BullRun is the USA based Rally) so i am still deciding.

We also did a few calculations on the Vehicle Rental Prices and found out it was actually cheaper to use Alex Roy's Service as opposed to renting a vehicle from Beverly Hills Car Rental Service.

(When you include the cost of the extra miles and the inconvienience of having to drive all the way back to the starting city to return the Exotic Vehicle it makes more sense to use the dedicated Rally Rental Service.

Good thing about doing the Gumball instead of the Bullrun is that quite a few of my client's have Supercars and have told me i am welcome to use any of them should i wish to participate in the Rally, but they will not join me as they cannot afford the bad Publicity should anything go wrong (Like the debacle at the last Gumball)

it's dangerous, the phantom accident, and the death of two elderly people after a wreckless stunt. it's a risk that only the bold take! and i am definately signing up for it. I checked out the gumbalrental car site, but didnt know if it included the bullrun, ill be turning 22 , am a young entrepreneur and cant rent one yet, but will be buying a car for the run, probably the new RS6.I think it would hold up, i'd get a Lambo , but the insurance would just kill me.
What dealership do you sell exotics at?

I dont sell Exotics, I rent them a lot :-) My clients also own quite a few. I would say Exotic rentals depends on where the race starts from. When on the West Coast i use Beverly Hills Rent a Car. when in London i use a friends Rental Service (Based in Baker Street)

I think the best solution for the Gumball is a Superfast Vehicle with space for Luggage unless you have a support Vehicle carrying all your Luggage (Imagine a 1 week trip in a Lambo/Ferrari)hence my choice has always been Bentley Continental GT//Flying Spur//CL63//CL65//M5//M6//RS6//RS4//CLS63//CLS55//Cayenne Turbo S

Anyone of these could keep up with the best of the other racers Checkpoint to Checkpoint if you do not have the Luxury of a Support Vehicle.

I'm happy for them. That's a great car for doing something like that.
