BMW M6 0-60 in less then 4 minutes?
It's so ironic how many on here (like Mdale, who owns a M6) laugh at Lexus for having "useless" technology like the park assit...while they drive the leader of useless technology in the world- BMW!

they made that more difficult than it really is. Yes, the car defaults to 400hp when you turn it on. Yes, you need to use iDrive ONE TIME to set how you want the M Dynamic Drive button to work. But if I'm not mistaken once you set what you want you don't have to do it again unless you want to change it. You can then pull everything up at once by hitting the M Dynamic Drive button on the steering wheel. You want that button to pull up max shift speed, max EDC, no DSC, and P500 sport mode? No problem. Set it that way and from then on whenever you hit that M button that's what it pulls up.

MDalle, is that accurate?

the readers on this site are hilarious. My comment is deboosted and all I did was explain the actual workings of the car so that people who don't actually know how it works don't see that video and mistakenly think that's really what it takes to drive it. I didn't bash Toyolexus or even Top gear, and I get deboosted.

What's funny about this whole thing is Clarkson said in a review of the M6 convertible that he was in love with the car.

Mr. Renlex,

TOP GEAR is an entertainment show. You shouldn't believe everything they feature. In fact, you shouldn't even take them seriously. They're here to make people laugh, that's it.

Who are you going to believe when it comes to serious automative discussion? TOP GEAR or a magazine say like Edmunds, Car and Driver or Motor Trend? Hint: It's not TOP GEAR.

And you singeling out MDalle for some negative posts about Lexus is pretty weak and silly. Have you not noticed how MDalle is either kidding or being sarcastic when he's "slamming" Lexus? Heck, I've done it too in past. People like you need to stop taking every little thing bad said about Lexus seriously. Silly little boy.

I'm surprised this topic was even allowed to be posted. Looks like Agent001 wants a flame war to happen...

And furthermore, this movie wasn't about the M6's performance, but about i-Drive. Some people find it easy to use, other's don't.

Let the flame war begin...

Tell me this:

How do you know it's not easy to use? HAVE YOU EVER EVEN USED IT?

I suggest you personally try it, and not take the words of "friends". For all I know, those friends of yours were blonde daddy's girls who don't even know what engine powers their BMW 3-Series coupe...

Yeah it will. I saw their prototype on Lexus.com and it is a stunning car. And like you said, a true GT car, not some car tuned up with more horsepower (Lexus IS-F, Mercedes AMG, BMW M)

You have to tell it you want more horsepower? What kind of performance car is this? Although, that is a mean looking design. BMW is probably my favorite German made brand.

The kind that is optimized for day to day use or TRAFFIC (though 400hp IS STILL QUITE A PERFORMANCE CAR) and for wooping some lexus ass when it really wants to put on a show (500hp). Just joking I’ve got nothing against upscale Toyotas. But seriously though, if you can’t appreciate the beauty of the technology packed into the m6, don’t comment. I can’t stand how the idrive has become something that most people run from, even at the dealers, you won’t find one e90 with idrive in it, sad.

Then why not buy a 6-Series if you plan on driving it in traffic? BMW designed the M-Series for sport enthusiasts. If you plan on driving more on the street than racing, then that's where the 6-Series steps in. Besides, when are you ever going to need 400/500 horsepower?

what is the information purpose of this post? everyone already knows the deal with i-Drive and how much many people and publications don't like it. what else is new you fool??

renlex is just trying to start flame wars and the only reason this got posted is because 001 also likes to stick his nose up Lexus' ass.

and just for the record, without iDrive, the car wouldn't function...everyone could do without Lexus park assist.

but BMW did make the iDrive that way. We are talking about useless technology, the iDrive is not useless. Maybe its design is flawed, difficult to use, or has too many functions but every car needs a CPU, a radio, climate control, etc.

Every car does NOT need a self-parking device unless you can't park...and if that be the case, you shouldn't have a license in the first place.

Conradulations, BTW, on your $3000 20 in rims (was the price necessary?) Business must be good for you!

renlex495, the BMW M6 is for experienced drivers that want a versatile auto from Germany, but if youre all thumbs and when it comes to paking the car then you should get the Lexus with the push-button parking crutch.

Top Gear is a fun show to watch. I love the M6 and their review is entertaining.

BTW- If you can use a cell phone, you can use the idrive system. Some people can't use a cell phone or resisted for some time.

Hey! I thouhgt if you really want to feel the real power of the BMW M6, that when you hit the M button right? And you just want to cruise and safe gas you have it off right? I think it really cool that you don't have to on 500hp all the time. But what do I know I'm a Lexus fan.

i think it's a good idea too, 500hp is sometimes too much. imagine an icy day, you definitely don't want it all!
the corvette LT something had a similar feature, a valet mode, only 200hp, required a key turn in a special lock.

hey - who here thinks the lexus parking system is easier to sue than idrive? there should be a test, don't look at the manual, don't get hints, and try to firstly park the lexus, then change the radio station or prgram the sat nav.
i reckon the idrive is easier to use.

you're right it probably is easier to "sue" the lexus parking system. From what I saw in a C&D online demo of it the Lexus almost ran into several cars while trying to park and was unable to in the end (and this was with plenty of space to do so, and didn't only involve parallel parking -- it couldn't even park normal by pulling into a space). Easy to "sue" indeed, that sounds like a lawsuit waiting to happen.

damn i meant use not sue

but still, you're idea is even better!

it's a lot less than the S-class, but all the cars in the class are bargains compared to the S-class (which is plain overpriced). Load them both up so they're equally equipped (no one buys these "base") and the new LS is creeping up on the 7-series now. Plus, considering the $3-4k worth of maintenance the 7-series comes with it's pretty close to even.

+4 BoostDrop the Boost Up the Boost
so you're contradicting yourself, then. It doesn't matter if the 7-series is less or more and whether the LS is a value, you'd buy a Lexus just because it's a Lexus. That's different than what you said before when you were talking about how good a value the LS was. For what it's worth, you know why the LS460 isn't $100k like the S-class or even $85-90k like the 7? Because if they weren't less than the competition they wouldn't sell (except maybe to you, if you can afford one). Don't think for a second Toyota doesn't charge every penny they can, they'd love to charge S-class money.

I have no problem with the LS, I think it's decent enough looking, I'm sure it'll be reliable, and the target audience of the LS will enjoy it for what it is. I just prefer the drive of the 7, S, and A8. Not because they're German, because they're more fun. I'd probably enjoy being chauffered around in the executive rear reclining seats or whatever they're called of the LS more than the others, but if I'm driving the car, give me any of the other cars over the LS.

I'm sure a person who is looking for a car of this calibre is computer savy therefore he knows how to adjust the horsepower. Clarkson i'm sure is in love but makes the flaws stand out more than they really are. In city streets the likelihood the owner will be using up all that 400HP is next to zero. Unless you're on the highway but even then 400HP is a lot unless you're trying to get a ticket or run from the cops. However, on a track the 500HP will be in full use and boy does it sound nice.

BMW actually developed a self parking system as well. Someone sent me a video from youtube which showed the car would park w/o the driver in the car via remote control. It could park in garages w/o assistance. I actually saw this video before I saw the info for the lexus. Not sure who developed it first...maybe bmw scrapped it.

I've used iDrive (hated it) Command (it better than iDrive, but not yet great, MMi (cool screen but still too much) and lastly the Jaguar interface which was by far the best and easiest thing to use. The touch screen is big and easy to use and allows you to go directly to what you want.

This is the 2nd showing of this video on autospies...why would they post it? I don't know.

M-drive useless...I don't think so. Your sitting at a stoplight ready to race, you push your M6's M-drive button & suddenly, your ready to roll. In any other car, 2 steps are needed... most likely you'll be turning of traction control & throwin it into sport mode.

Seriously though, I’m so sick of hearing i-drive this i-drive that from the same people who can’t seem to work their home computer.

I use it everyday and prefer it hands down to the old fashioned way of controlling things inside the cockpit, and if I were to guess...it looks like Audi & Mercedes don’t mind it either.
