BMW is believed to plan a rival for the Mercedes-Maybach S-Class, which will come in the shape of the 9-Series flagship sedan.

The BMW 9-Series has been rumored for quite some time now and it seems that with each passing year, the model is getting closer and closer to the production line. According to a recent report, published by the guys from BMW Blog, the model in question is believed to come out in 2017, if it will be indeed green-ligthed. Our source is stating that the new 9-Series will stand above the current 7-Series and it will become a rival for the Mercedes-Maybach S-Class.

The upcoming BMW 9-Series will be longer than the current flagship and it will also get a longer wheelbase. The total length of the car will be approximately 5,500 mm, and it will be aimed, obviously, towards the newly unveiled Mercedes-Maybach S-Class. This might not seem like the right thing to do because BMW already has Rolls-Royce, which is producing the Ghost and also the Phantom, but a new flagship model might increase the value of the brand.
