Sales for the BMW brand were down by nearly 4 percent in October over a strong year ago, but through the first 10 months of the year they stood at 279,395 units, a nearly 5-percent gain over a year earlier.

Meanwhile, Mercedes-Benz brand sales increased by 1.3 percent over a year earlier in October, giving the brand 278,842 sales for the year to date, up nearly 7 percent over 2014 levels.
