BMW may be pulling away from both Mercedes-Benz and Lexus in total U.S.-market luxury sales for 2015 after an October performance that solidified the pole position for the German premium brand.
Sales for the BMW brand were down by nearly 4 percent in October over a strong year ago, but through the first 10 months of the year they stood at 279,395 units, a nearly 5-percent gain over a year earlier.
Meanwhile, Mercedes-Benz brand sales increased by 1.3 percent over a year earlier in October, giving the brand 278,842 sales for the year to date, up nearly 7 percent over 2014 levels.
BMW extended its year-to-date lead over Mercedes-Benz to 553 units at the end of October, up from an advantage of only 66 vehicles through the end of September
