Unbelievable. ANOTHER jacked-up P.O.S for the masses with tight seating for 4. They should reveal it in Atlanta this week.

Front end looks okay, but the rear (especially d-pillar) reminds me of the Nissan Rogue.

It looks good. It has the new BMW design elements, it has a sporty stance, i think it will sell well.

ill join you. This is revolting. after the good looking m3 and relatively good looking x6, they come out with crap like the new 7 and this. wtf were they thinking.

Another ugly BMW, no surprises.

But all the BMW fanboys and cheerleaders will be sure to eat this thing up, because they have zero taste.

I'm not fully convinced.

I know the transition from concept to production would render some design elements moot, but from what I'm looking at...it doesn't really work at all.

Firstly, what's the difference b/t the X1 and the X3? Without a side-by-side comparison, they look almost the same, if not incredibly similar. Is the X1 supposed to be a mini-sized X3? And if that's the case, then OK, they've accomplished their goal.

Secondly, I was under the impression that the X1 was going to be a smaller version of the X6. I like the overall design of the X5, and I thought the X3 was supposed to be a smaller version of the X5 design-wise. Will the next X3 be the mini-X6 version then?

So it's a baby X3 from what I see. I would assume the sizing would be similar to that of say a CR-V or Rav 4?

Even though it's not the same market, I wanna see how this goes up against the CX-7 Mazda with the turbo. Just out of curiousity.

It looks Korean...look at the bottom air outlet shape - it reminds me of many Kia designs (the coupe concept and Soul in particular). That flame surfacing is just too much, it looks forced, trying to line up lines from the greenhouse with the bottom profile...when is BMW going back to doing things with simple elegance?

Now I am a big Honda Acura fan but I can say with all honesty the new TL is awful, I wonder how many BMW fans can be honest and say this X1 is a turd as well...

I read that the X1 is around 100mm shorter, virtually the same size as the X3 - how many 'X's do BMW need?!

they have to have all of the numbers covered and then they are going to go into the lerrers.

Autoblog derided the new X1, but I think it looks fine. Much better than the current X3.

I question how many SAV variants BMW really needs to cover the market. They would probably be better off having two very focused offerings (a new X3 along with the current X5) instead of carpet bombing the market with too many models.

I'm no fan of this design, I'll admit that.. but for people to say it's pointless is a little short sighted. Why does BMW only need 2 SAV's, when it has 4 4-door saloon/hatchback products available? There are other manufacturers selling SUV's at this size and price.

It's no real threat to the X3. The new X5 is bigger, the new X3 will be bigger, and the X1 will slot in underneath.

The X6 is the only questionable choice as it's so close to the X5... but then it's a smaller niche with much smaller anticipated sales... as the 6 series is to the 5 series.

I guess they based the X1 from the 3 series as packaging constraints could be a little tight with the 1er platform.

Will they sell 100,000 of them.. yes, but it's the first BMW in a while I wouldn't put my own money in to.. it is fugly, I was hoping for alot better than this.. side profile is good, back is acceptable, mirrors new 3er rear end, but the front?? looks like BMW bought that F-01 7 series bumper back from eBay and refitted it!!!

I now REALLY worry for the Z4 and X3 replacements. I'll still love BMW though - I love most of them since the 3/15 so I can let one or two slip through.

Sports Activity Vehicle...

Don't you read BMW's big book of marketing abbreviations?

I was being sarcastic.

Their "SAV" & "SAC" monikers are about as useful as the performance data they publish in their vehicle information booklets.

front end shape looks 90% new 7 series. Rear is ugly anyway still better than X3.

JUGNU, that was the first thing that came 2 mind. After seeing this though, what is the point of X3? Looks like it could pass 4 the "new" X3. I thought they would have went with a pillarless design or something to give buyers a reason 2 choose this over X3. I am seriously waiting 4 the next X3 if this filled its shoes...

I like it a lot, it looks so much better than the X3, the X3 got the boxy designs to narrow, to high, this one seems to get it right.
You americans seems to forget that in Europe we prefer smaller cars, i like the X5 or X6 but they cost a lot here, more than 200.000 usd. the X1 will be almost as big as a 3 series wagon, but you get that high seating position that is nice to overwiew the traffic. But i would still like to get an coupe:)

God I pray the new 6-series doesn't wear that stupid oversized grill from the new 7 & now the X1! Well along with the new 7 I like the cars profile but hate the new grill direction.
