BMW’s flagship GT model could get V10 twin-turbo producing 625-hp
After making its rounds at all other major auto shows, the BMW CS Concept has finally made its way to North America and is being displayed at the 2008 New York Auto Show this week. BMW has already confirmed that the CS Concept is a design study outlining the company’s new flagship Gran Turismo model. The car will fit above the 7-Series when it hits markets in 2011, and will compete with other four-door coupes including the Porsche Panamera, Aston Martin Rapide, Audi A7 and the Mercedes-Benz CLS
Gerhard Richter, a member of the management team of the BMW M GmbH, will be assigned project leader on the upcoming Gran Turismo. Of course this means that the Gran Turismo will have massive M-influence from the get go.
Powertrain details are still sketchy. Previous reports say that engine choices will range from a V8 all the way up to a V12. A new report from AutoZeitung says that the new BMW Gran Turismo will get a new...

the average enthusiast may never afford the $100k+ ferrari or porsche. the enthusiast often needs their car as transportation.
i would consider the porsche and ferrari owners sports car connoisseurs rather than enthusiasts.
that's the beauty of the bmw; it may be the closest thing to a track car that a hard working individual will ever own. you may need a monstrous inheritance to get that ferrari though.
i'm sorry if you can't see what makes bmw such a big deal. you're missing out on a great reality.
when you wake again tomorrow, give it another try. you'll catch on one of these days.

the closest thing to a track car that a hard working individual will ever own is GTR. with M3's price tag, you get much higher performance than M3. i think that is pretty much a given.

sure, the gt-r may be more track worthy than an m3. but your now comparing two very different cars. your comparing a sports car that's designed specifically for the track with a car that in various guises performs as a family's sedan, bachelor's coupe, and mom's (pardon the stereotype) wagon, and on weekends can be tossed around a track.

That could easily be turned and applied to that company from japan that you so adore. Or maybe in your eyes it can't be, and that's why you're so obviously threatened by BMW.
It's ok man, I know it must hurt your feelings that lexus hasn't caught up yet. Hang in there, they'll get close someday.

i would argue the only true "badge whore" brand would be one that was designed for those too snooty to drive a toyota.
which is worse, the company that puts out a stellar product creating the brand whores, or the company that is invented to market to these savages?

"If you look up "badge whore" in a dictionary, a picture of BMW's emblem should be there."
Have you ever even opened a dictionary? GoObama, go elsewhere, nobody wants to hear your idiotic comments.

Perhaps BMW could generate even more excitement and call this the 8 series.

That stainless-steel finish certainly does catch your eye. It'll be interesting to see what the production model looks like.
However, if it's anything like the Mercedes CLS, you won't fit in it if you are over 6'2" tall.

so the top model gets a twin turbo v10...but more importantly, will the more basic models offer diesels...in the states?

I posted an article earlier on about this that wasn't put up. But if you want the whole detail here it is. However I am sure this car that I am posting about will not be a 4 door coupe, and therefore I think the article above has some mixed up information.
According to sources, Bmw is currently developing a new car powered by a front-mounted V10 engine capable of delivering 600-630 hp due to a pair of new turbochargers mounted on it. Fitted with ultra light carbon-fiber chassis and bodykit, forged magnesium wheels and ceramic brakes the new super sport car will have a top speed close to 400 km/h while the sprint from 0-100 km/h will be made in 3.5 seconds or less.
Looks like Bmw took this decision in order to close the mouth of the people who thought that the V10-powered M6 Coupe is just an overweight GT which compromised the performances for comfort.
Sources confirmed that the new car will cost almost €300,000, a small price if we consider that the new car will have performances of a super car. To me however, it just seems like too much, but we'll have to wait and see.

I thought the 1 series was the best of Bangle’s designs with the high beltline running the length of the car, but this concept is even better, showing a similar high but broken beltline that exaggerates the rear wheel arch. Well done. The high beltline reminds me of the first generation Corvair, making the car look lower to the ground than it really is.

I would hope two things.
1) that they use something other than C5, that has gotta be TMd by Corvette.
2) That with a TT V10 you could get more than 625hp.

I really despise the design of this car. I can definitely see why so many people are in love with it, but it's just too flashy and has way too much going on. The lines are great, but there is nothing about it that screams class to me. There needs to be a subtlety in the design.
