BMW to Announce Full iPhone Integration Today
Can we tell you we told you so? Back in February the Spies told you that BMW would be the first automaker to integrate the new iPhone into the 7 series.
Early indications today are that, BMW will be the first automaker to announce a fully integrated system for Apple's brand-new iPhone.
We aren't talking just bluetooth here, we mean a full scale interface bringing unprecedented access to the full features of the iPhone.
Stay tuned for the full press release.

Very good for them, curious to know exactly how it'll sync with the car, besides the music.

Sounds like a lot of 7-series owners will be crashing into other drivers while being distracted by their I-Phone.

Thats why all the car manufacturers have been engineering all these pre-collision systems, and automatic braking systems. Because they KNEW that one day a device would be invented leaving drivers with far better things to do then look at some silly road.

I have to agree with the touchscreen. But the fact remains that iDrive is perfectly ergonomic, whereas a touchscreen would not be. The location of the controlling forces the drivers shoulder into the seat, therefore keeping his/her head upright, maintaining peripheral vision on the road. No other system does this, especially a touch screen.
Everyone has totally missed this about iDrive. BMW saw integration with devices like the iPhone 10 years ago, and developed future technology. Soon, within 15 years, every car manufacturer with need to have a system like iDrive available to keep up with the march of technological progress that is inevitable.

I will have to say I love my i-drive. It in itself is like the i-phone because there is a learning curve. If you can't operate i-drive within a week, you are a total idiot/degenerate. Even my 58 year old mother (has a 2007 SL550) gets envious when she rides in my car.I totally empathize with those who love the touch screen interface. However, I would hate to wipe the greasy fingerprints off all the time! (ugh!) I wouldn't want everyone touching my screen!!

Good news and congrats to Apple sales folk who made this happen. I just hope that BMW does not start charging thousand extra for this like Mercedes has traditionally done with built-in cell phones.

EnnNorak, are you stupid? Built-in cellphones are obsolete as of 2004. Bluetooth and its future replacement ensured that. This combined with the best voice recognition system available in a vehicle today, you now have a truly seamless hands free integration that is 1)Safer for all drivers and 2) much much easier to use.

jesus...as if i dont have enough time to waste reading about the iphone on engadget, this disease spreads over here.
let me just say one thing. VOICE COMMANDS. which btw happens to be missing on the iphone anyway. if you can hook up any phone to your bmw and use the bluetooth to make/receive calls, then wth is this iphone integration for? surf the web while driving? LOL this is stupid.
