The American-built BMW X3 xDrive35d has been announced but, while it will be built at the carmaker's Spartanburg South Carolina plant, it may not be available for sale in its home country.

BMW seemed to have a foot in the hybrid camp with its ActiveHybrid models but sales have reportedly been disappointing while diesel sales have climbed (sales of the E90 335d were almost the same as the E90 335i for the first six months of 2011). Forget hybrids, just offer an X3 and 5 Series diesel and we'll be happy.
