Breaking News: Bmw will sell racing components

These words came from Stephen Zoepf, BMW Performance “Accessory Development Manager”.

The manager admitted that for those who want to transform their vehicles, the German manufacturer will soon make available parts designed by Bmw Motorsport especially for the vehicles used in racing.

So, the new line will include new body kits, high-performance brakes and spoilers in order to improve your vehicle and make it more competitive. According to Stephen Zoepf, the new program will be fully established in the coming months.

this will make it better when you go to re-sell the car because now you cant say that the stuff is not only after market but its made by the actual car manufacturer which I am sure will not hurt any part of the warranty

B7FAN - Sort of like certain Audi dealers? Just because bmw is doing something doesn't mean they are the first to do it.

i don't think this will help resale values. why would you want to pay more for a car that very likely has been driven harder than an unmodified one.

i don't know that. but if i were putting my hard earned on the line, i would bet against the modified car leading the easier life. i discriminate against ANY alteration when buying a used car: aftermarket stereos in particular. if your original equipment stereo isn't loud enough, you are likely too full of piss and vinegar to take proper care of a car.

buying a used car is an exercise in profiling; drawing conclusions about the way a given car was treated by observing subtle indicators. its like picking a spouse.

i could go on about a spouse with high mileage and aftermarket accessories, but i won't go there...

BMW selling performance parts is the funniest thing I've ever seen. What Badgewhore in their right mind would waste money for this crap? We never bought BMW for performance and we never will. Real driving enthusiasts already buy real performance cars from other makes and there's not enough fakers to make BMW any money.

yeah CERTAIN is the main word in that sentence as for BMW has been offering upgrade accessories for the past 3 years now they are offering racing components for their cars designed by the BMW M divioion on top of the accessories they have been offering for the interior and exterior.

BMW was the first premium brand to offer accessories for their car and VW actually started it and AUDI had no choice but to follow because they were owned by VW.

Its all about sales. If you can't sell enough cars, then sell accessories. Plus, all of the race accessories already exist so the cost to get into this line of business is almost nil.

As an example, I just replaced the pads and rotors on my X5 myself over the weekend. I bought the parts at my local BMW dealer so I would be sure of getting a "factory" brake job. However, if the dealer had an authorized brake upgrade kit available (better pads, slotted rotors, better calipers), I would have probably purchased it.

So... BMW is a car manufacturer, they've got every right to manufacture racing components for (their) vehicles. Just don't let CARB know their doing this... or those goons in Oregon.
