Breaking News: Porsche planning to expand its lineup with three new models

Few days ago we revealed you the fact that Porsche has a new CEO, in the person of Martin Winterkorn.

It appears that this Mr. Winterkorn has big plans for Porsche because, in a recent interview for a German newspaper, he said that the German manufacturer will expand its lineup with three new models!

According to Winterkorn, Porsche will build an entry-level vehicle, situated under the Boxster, a little brother for the Cayenne and an additional model of the Panamera gran turismo. The new CEO also added that he wants Porsche to be again the leader in advanced technology and innovation.

Unless I've been mislead, wasn't the Boxster supposed to have served as Porsche's 'entry level' vehicle? One can only hope that this new 'entry level' Porsche doesn't deviate from so far from the original mission as well.

I'm sure the Boxster will now move up in size slightly,get more hp,more technology, and maybe a hardtop. The entry level or "baby" Porsche will take its spot.

Remember when they designed the 924 to originally be sold as an Audi. Using Rabbit mechanicals, and mostly VW/Audi components. Then at the last minute they decided to sell it as a Porsche.

The resale on Boxsters is not so hot, you can get a fairly good used one for the 20's and 30's if you look hard enough.

I've even seen some older 911's in the low 30's.

Porsche always just came off as the poser car. I know they perform great and I would not turn one down. But every person in one is some middle-aged business 9-5'er who drives them like they are Buicks. Put on a show and take off once in awhile.

Bring back the 928 that was an awesome car from the past. The 968 cabriolet was gorgeous as well especailly with the pop up headlights. My dad had one in 1993 and I loved driving it.

Boxster starts in the mid 40's and are just out of reach of a person with an average job. Keeps the brand more exclusive. Now they are going to dilute that by selling something to compete with stripped down C300 and 328i's, that everyone with a managers job at McDonalds can afford. When I think MB now, I don't think SL, SLR, or even S anymore. I first picture a shitbox C300 with vinyl (excuse me MBTEX) seats. Same thing goes for BMW. 328's with leatherete are everywhere. My cousin with a secretary job has one. Seeing a Porsche (even a Boxster) is still more of a "moment" for you on the road. I say get rid of the Boxster, don't add something below it. This must be the idea of someone at VW

Lots of immature comments here, especially yours. The C300 or 328i are not pieces of shit. People who think in such terms are just primitive. Sounds like you.

I drive a C230 V6 with MB Tex and there is absolutely nothing wrong with it. I could easily have ticked off the leather option but I didn't see the point of leather. MB Tex is more durable, easier to clean and looks convincingly leatherish enough.

Porsche is just reacting the economy and the market. These companies need to survive and evolve and this is one way of doing it. In the next few years we are going to see a lot of new models and downsizing from companies that we really didn't expect it from. Get with the times.

Of course you think so, you drive one. No offense. My description of the car was in terms of what it does to MB and BMW's image. It has diluted the brand and made it nothing special to me know. The brand has no cache to me. I look at the car not the badge. When I see an SLR go by I say wow, there goes a $500k car and I'm jealous. When I see a C go by I yawn and say there goes another underpowered high maintenace shitbox with vinyl seats. Sorry if that offends you personally, that's just my opinion. Not sure why that would be considered primitive. I'd just rather not see Porsche go that direction with the brand

Rx, the Boxster already has a hardtop--it's called the Cayman! It was said by Porsche insiders that the Audi Q5 is killing the Q7, and that's why they didn't inroduce the Roxster...hopefully this new CEO will think of that, and not truly dilute Porsche, it doesn't need anymore SUV's, one is enough, and that is ugly as well.

Now, acoupe version of the Panamera would look a lot better than the "sedan"---that word and Porsche just doesn't mix. If they keep the rear down and not make it so frumpy, it would look like a German (read Porsche) version of a Ferrari 599 GTB
