Car and Driver is a troll magazine, always has been and always will be. G37 shames the BMW in all performance category, offers a much better looking interior, and is a bargain to boot all at the expense of some barely noticeable NVH. What superior performing vehicle don't give up some NVH for superior performance?

If the asian brands keep winning all shootouts, an decreased in white readership will be the result, CD can't afford to let that happen, they are a business afterall.

My $0.02:

1. BMW: very close win (say 1 point?)
2. Infiniti: a very strong competitor (great dynamics + Japanese quality)
3. Cadillac: great overall package (handling, styling, interior, value)
4. Mercedes: so-so styling + so-so driving dynamics = midpack finish
5. Audi: a solid competitor in extremely difficult company
6. Acura - that beak has got to go (what was Acura thinking?)

In my opinion :) the G37, and the 328/335 could go either way depending on whats important to the individual. Yes to me there is a different feel in the BMW but does that mean the G does not handle well... it handles great but the BMW does have that magic feel but , and this is subjective alot of people look at it as I'm keeping this car for 5 or more years which one is the best overall and going to cost me less over all.. and do I get pretty close to the best feel for the money.. and i this economy and with that mind set the G may win more.

In my opinion, the G37 and the BMW "328" - please leave 335 out of discussion - can only go one way, which is the comparison of fuel economy. That is all. G37 has better overall performance, more luxrious interior, and more bang for the buck. A 328 fits the categoical description of a BMW Prius and is, hmmmmmm, for those who are brand- and budget- conscious. They simply just want to have a Bimmer, any Bimmer could do for them.

Mercedes'strong point isn't in the entry level like BMW, Lexus, and Infiniti. E Class and higher is where MB shines. This segment is still owned by BMW. I've driven a base 328i coupe and it drives very smooth and handles great around turns. while the g37 is more lively and probably more exciting, the bmw is the safe choice. the c-class is a good car, c63 is a beast, but i would never buy a base to medium range c class, theres no point when mercedes are superb in the high end. audi a4 and cts should be up there.

Having driven both the 328i sport manual and G37 sedan Sport manual when I was car shopping a couple of months ago, the BMW is the better vehicle. Roomier (at least up front), MUCH better transmission/clutch, better ride WITH the good handling. Just more fun to drive and more refinement.

I drove the 328 and G and found the 328 to be boring. C&D did this comparo a couple years ago and had the same results. That article was posted here as well so where is the new news 001?

I would take the G37 all day long over the 328/335. I have test driven the G37 and it is amazing. My company car for the past 5 years was a 335 and the G37 beats it in my opinion in all aspects. I was so happy when they switched out the BMW for Audi's in our company car fleet. The G37 is just a better all around car than the 328/335.

ive driven both the 328i and G37 back to back (and the 325i, 330i and G35 when it was time to buy a car a few years back) and both times i wouldve picked the 3 series hands down. The G's were and are great cars, but theres just something in that bavarian water. And everyone calls Car and Driver biased, but could it just so happen that they are just telling it like it is and BMW just so happens to be a builder of great cars??

1. BMW 328i - except in a drag race. The 328i is on par with 335i
2. Audi A4 2.0T - well-finished cabin. love the Quattro AWD
3. Infiniti G37 Sport - it's not a BMW
4. Acura TL SH-AWD - for the nissan people acura can't compete.

I drove a 328 (stripped down model) as a dealer courtesy car while my 530i was getting FREE maintenance..... But I have to say that 328 was just very uncomfortable, and looked and felt so cheap. For the money one would spend on a basic model, you'd be far better off in any of the other cars in this list!

Why all the hype for the Infiniti G37? I rented a brand new one in sunny LA a couple of weeks ago and experienced: ill weighted steering, jumpy throttle, touchy brakes and a general lack of refinement. A BMW it is not.

I am so excited that the BMW won this little test. I own a BMW 3 and one of my closest friends just bought an Infiniti G. Needless to say, this article will be forwarded to his work and personal email addresses. Additionally, this mag will be on my coffee table when he comes to visit. Honestly, the G is a fine car. However, when we hang out, the Bimmer still gets the most respect. I truly enjoy driving my car.

This Car and Driver article should teach Audi US operations a lesson - NEVER, NEVER submit an Audi equipped with all-season tires and stock suspension to an enthusiast magazine unless the magazine swears it will only be compared with non-enthusiast family sedans. The other cars in this comparison had high-performance summer tires and sport suspensions, thus the "stock" A4 came out badly. An A4 equipped with the 2.0-liter turbo engine, decent tires and sport suspension will have no trouble matching or surpassing the 328i.
Car & Driver is not blameless in this regard, either. They should have pressed Audi for an A4 equipped with performance tires and suspension. Furthermore, how could the magazine consider comparing a car with a 100-hp advantage (G37) over its two nearest rivals (328i, A4) a "fair fight"?

Everyone knows the result before the test with C & D if a BMW is involved...These cars were all over the place in terms of power train and equipment - I traded a 2006 Audi A4 for a 2008 G35 which I picked over a MB C350 I drove and a 335i...My rankings then:

328i wins over G37 ... the folks over at C&D are on crack.

If it was the 335i, then it would have made sense.

328i is out of league with the G37.

The 328i is more comparable with the new Acura TSX V-6 version. The 328i would probably handle better than the TSX ... the former being a rear wheel driver, but I would still pick the TSX V-6. It offers sporty enough drive, more room and way better looking interior.

But if I want to get a no holds bar real sport sedan, it would be either the BMW M3 sedan or the upcoming Audi RS4 sedan.

Car and Driver did not match these contestants very well. There is so much variation within this contestant pool, as far as price, equipment, power, transmission, etc. are concerned, that comparison is meaningless.

LOL, stripper 328i beats the G37. That is funny. Well this is just a slap in the face for Infiniti for trying too hard. As I read through the comments, I noted that there are those who drive BMWs, but they made the right choice (i.e. anything but the smallest brother in that family). For me, as a proud Infiniti G driver, I am not sure why others are fuming over this decision. C&D did their test, they confirmed what we all know, the G owns the track (only when it comes to the 328i guys, not the M, not the 335i). However, like any other 328i driver out there, and they are many, they preferred the stripper 328i. Why should anyone be mad about their decision. Like they said, unless God said otherwise, they would not change their minds. Interestingly, unless God tells me otherwise, I will stick with my car till I can afford the 52k version of the 335i. (I dont buy the base engine, its never worth it). Now lets get back to driving our beloved cars and once we are on the road, we all know who is the daddy and who is the little girl.

FYI, if you do not like the 328i, thats one thing but please don't bash BMW, that just wont get you anywhere. Just strip the 328i from its more superior brothers and you know, the only thing you will hear is "oh it handles well and you can toss it around" and this is true but so what, LOL. It traps the 1/4 mile in the same time as the Rav 4 V6. Just focus on the 328i, not the brand. LOL

Just a side note as I see a ranking just on top of my post, you have to be a freakin' lunatic to place the TL ahead of the 328i or any of those cars for that matter.
