One category of automobiles that buyers seem to adore and journalists covering the auto space seem to slug is high-performance sport-utility vehicles. Although these boys and girls seem to adore vehicles like the Cadillac CTS-V WAGON and Mercedes-AMG E63 WAGON, SUVs with the same guts are considered ridiculous.

Anyway.

Our friends at Autocar decided to have a bit of fun with a trio of today's most coveted high-performance SUVs. With access to the BMW X5M, Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT and Porsche Cayenne Turbo S, it put them together on a starting line and conducted a drag race.

Although I don't think the result is that surprising if you've driven all three, it seems to make our presenters scratch their heads. That said, see how it plays out, below!


America versus Germany and...er, more Germany. We've put together three brutal V8 SUVs, with a combined power output of nearly 1600bhp, to do battle on our quarter-mile drag strip.

Our US representative, the Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT, comes with 6.4-litres of HEMI V8; which is plenty for most circumstances, but will it be enough against the BMW X5 M and Porsche Cayenne Turbo S? Let's find out.
