If you're head hasn't been completely in the sand over the past six months, you've likely come across the very predictable review comparing both the all-new BMW M4 and all-new Lexus RC F. It's probably one of this year's most popular face offs, but it's all sort of predictable.

The BMW is the performance benchmark and is a great track day machine thanks to its planted nature, fine suspension tuning and stupid fast gearbox.

The Lexus, not so much. While it's been chastised for its heftier weight and controversial styling it seems that just about everyone who has gotten behind the wheel has found its performance paling in comparison to the M4.

I've been a bit skeptical of this since I found the first-gen IS F to be a very capable street machine. Frankly, we're not racing these things, we're driving to our offices. That's why I am not always a fan of these quantified tests — they don't tell the truth about really owning one and it becomes about tenths of a second. Pretty stupid, honestly.

Here's where the plot thickens. Motor Trend recently put both the M4 and RC F on the same track and geeked out over performance figures. The results were a bit startling.

In one lap, the M4 chalked up a time of 1:23.73 and the RC F nailed a 1:24.05 around the Streets of Willow.

This week on Head 2 Head, presented by Tire Rack, Carlos Lago pits two rear-drive luxury coupes - the 2015 BMW M4 and the 2015 Lexus RC-F - against each other in a battle for tire-smoking glory. Also, we find out which one is faster and more fun to drive by visiting the instrumented test track, the winding road course at Hyundai’s Proving Ground, and Streets of Willow racetrack with pro driver Randy Pobst. Has Lexus built a sports coupe with performance on par with BMW's M Division? We can't wait to find out.
