Finally, Congressman Ed Markey has proposed a bill that would order the gas guzzling SUVs and pickups to pay gas-guzzler tax.

You think that there already is a gas-guzzler tax, you are correct. There is a gas-guzzler tax for cars, but not trucks and SUVs. This goes completely against the EPA's policy for gas-guzzler tax. This is what the EPA says about gas-guzzler tax, "The purpose of the Gas Guzzler Tax is to discourage the production and purchase of fuel inefficient vehicles." I think that SUVs and pickups can be classified as "inefficient" vehicles with a common fuel economy rating of 14/18. For example, the Dodge Ram SRT-10 gets fuel economy rating of 9/12 but pays absolutely no gas-guzzler tax. On the other hand, the BMW 760li that gets a fuel economy rating of 15/22 does pay the gas-guzzler tax. This bill would make the Dodge (and other inefficient SUVs and pickups)pay the same gas-guzzler tax.
