Confirmed Land Rover Gives Go Ahead For LRX Production
Here's proof that Land Rover is set to turn on the style. As the British brand gets ready to push upmarket, Auto Express can exclusively reveal the look of an exciting new model.

Our spies have produced these exclusive images from top secret information.

Based on the LRX concept cars that wowed the crowds at this year’s Detroit and Geneva motor shows, the newcomer is a sporty five-door SUV. It will slot into the range above the Freelander and go head-to-head with prestige brand rivals, including the upcoming BMW X1 and Audi Q5.

The model will showcase technology aimed at increasing efficiency and boosting the marque’s green credentials. A stop-start system and a hybrid drivetrain are likely to appear as top brass attempt to reduce the overall CO2 emissions of the range.

Be sure and check out our extensive photo galleries  including the 2008 New York Auto Show and catch up on all of the latest news and models on AutoSpies.

Kwel is What? And this is a great decision by Land Rover to build the LRX. The LRx is thousandfold better than either Infiniti FX or the humped back BMW X6. And i would like to see the two door being carried over to production. I heard somewhere that Land Rover is trying to keep as much of the concepts interior intact, an action no other company has dared to try, but should be great if this happens. Also the muscular and sculpted lines of the LRX concept are a must for the production model. Overall i like this headlamp designs much more than the ones used in current Range Rover Sport. Overall it looks as if LR will have a good future.

Your right. Land Rover said they are going to keep the interior of the LRX, which I think is a great idea because I love the interior.

Yes the RX started all this, but has stood still since then while other companies have brought better designs.

its still going to spend most of its time in service LR should sort out the issues with the range rover, the sport and the new discovery first and make sure there right befor they embark on another model.

Awesome.

Line forms behind me. This thing is gorgeous. And it makes sense that its above the LR2 - early reports suggested it would be slotted below, which I knew was total BS.

Remember the best things in life are often short. I would rather have a vehicle i love and that makes me happy even though it has probs. Its much better than driving a boring Toyota all over the place and never happy.

so would u be happy if your range rover sport spent 5weeks in service 4 weeks after you bought it? I wasn't. and i wasn't happy when it broke down on lincon at 5 0 clock on a friday heading south! but im sure most people who dont care about reliability enjoy these experiences. my car has been declared a lemon 13 months after i bought it new! and i would have preferred a "crappy" toyota pritty much all the time while i had my RRS. but you enjoy vehicles with problems thats up to you!

" It will slot into the range above the Freelander and go head-to-head with prestige brand rivals, including the upcoming BMW X1 and Audi Q5."

WTF? This makes no sense. The Q5 will be only slightly smaller than the X5, and larger than the X3, let alone the as-yet-unconfirmed "X1."

Anyway, kudos to Land Rover. This is going to be a major hit!

Agree, I think a closer competitor is the EX35, but then again, the LRX will have mild off road capability, probably equivalent of an Audi Allroad or Volvo XC90.

I love how they're using the split rear gate on the Range, as well as a grill that's more flush with the headlights (versus the LR2 which dips deep below the headlights and juts out forward).

The LR2 should've looked more like this. The "mean" looking eyes are very un-Land Rover but looks great (LR's have more of a deer-in-headlights look).
