It used to be that if you opted for the more hardcore variant of an Italian exotic supercar, you only received a coupe. But, that all sort of changed in recent years.

That's because Ferrari and Lamborghini started producing its limited batches of lightweight, Alcantara-laden supercars without roofs. This meant the Ferrari Scuderia Spider 16M was born as was the Lamborghini Gallardo Spyder Performante.

The raging bull's latest auto in this vein is the Huracan Performante Spyder. So, what's it like?

Should I buy one?

If you’re the sort of person who loves to chase tenths of a second on track days, stick to the Coupe.

For everybody else, the Spyder delivers the more intoxicating and immersive driving experience, in spite of its one or two dynamic frailties.

With the Huracan Performante, Lamborghini has put Ferrari and McLaren on notice.
