This is what we've been waiting for. For years the midsize luxury class has been ruled by the Audi, BMW, Lexus and Mercedes-Benz. But here comes trouble and it's from Italy. We welcome the Maserati Ghibli.

As Maser is shooting to hit that 50,000 unit volume by 2015, the Ghibli and Levante — sport-utility vehicle — are supposed to be the primary drivers of that initiative. And here we find ourselves, watching the very first video review of the all-new Ghibli.

Presented by the one and only Harry Metcalfe of Evo Magazine, I can't think of a better person to kick this party off. Oh yes, I can: Agent 001. But we'll live with Metcalfe for now.

Though I won't give away Metcalfe's findings, I will say this. If I were shopping for a midsize luxury sedan or four-door coupe, the Ghibli's sound and look are pretty hard to count out.

That said, watch Metcalfe's review below. It's a good one.

The Maserati Ghibli is tasked with massively increasing the volume of cars the Italian firm sells a year, targeting 50,000 sales by 2015. Just under five metres in length, the Ghibli is designed to compete with rivals like the Mercedes CLS and BMW 6-series Gran Coupe and has the option of a diesel engine for the first time in Maserati’s 99-year history.
