If you have ever been to a track day, likely you've seen hoards of Mazda Miatas that are being piloted by a bunch of guys and gals telling you its the most RAW driving experience.

After dealing with these tools, of course there's another group you'll come across. These are the people driving with leather goggles and long white scarfs. Of course they're driving a Caterham. This teeny tiny British two seater is a kit car and you'll know it when you see it.

Lastly there's the complete nutters. These are the owners of Ariels. I say it's barely a car because essentially what you're buying is a motor, a frame and four wheels with rubber.

While the standard Ariel Atom was stupid fast and capable of contorting the driver's face — thank you for visualizing this for us, Jeremy Clarkson — it's been getting updated throughout the years. The latest variant is the 3.5R, which Evo Magazine recently had the chance to drive.

Now I won't spoil the rest for you, so, tune in to the video below to see what true madness is like.

Ariel has announced the latest car to join its hardcore driver-focused line-up, the Atom 3.5R. Like the standard Atom 3.5, the R is powered by a supercharged version of the Honda Civic Type-R 2.0-litre four-pot engine. A slightly hotter state of tune means the Atom now produces 350bhp at 8400rpm and 243lb ft of torque at 6100rpm.
