I remember when the current-gen Ford Explorer debuted for the first time. I was speaking with Agent 001 who was at a SoCal beach for the launch — Ford did some cool stuff with sand castles if I remember correctly. Once the sheets were pulled off, 001 and I got a bit of a chuckle.

That's because the Blue Oval took some creative license from its formerly owned Land Rover. It didn't take a brain surgeon to notice the little details that were overwhelmingly Range Rover, especially in the headlights and taillights.

Now around for quite a bit of time and playing in a super competitive market, Ford has given the Explorer a refresh. It actually went one step farther in looking more upmarket and Land Rover-inspired. And now available with a Platinum trim, you can enjoy some premium features like plenty of tech and a leather-trimmed dashboard.

According to our reviewer in the clip below, the Explorer Platinum can approach a rather steep $55,000 bucks.
