The road-going Scuderia Glickenhaus SCG 003 will be sold solely as a kit car in the United States, the company has confirmed.

During an exclusive test drive of the model, Road & Track learnt from James Glickenhaus that by being sold as a kit car, the vehicle will by exempt from the country's strict airbag and crash-test standards. However, the SCG 003 won't be like any other kit car before it.

For starters, it truly will be a race car for the road. In fact, Glickenhaus' plan for the model includes three distinct variations. The first is dubbed the SCG 003C, 'Competizione', and has already been raced at the Nurburgring. The family then includes the 003CS, 'Competizione Stradale', which will be capable of competing at the 24 Hours of the Nurburgring while still being street legal when the engine is swapped out.
