BMW released the X5 xDrive35d and the 335d diesel models powered by a variable twin turbo 3.
0 liter inline six-cylinder. The motor produces 265-hp and 425lb-ft of torque. The result is a zero to sixty time of 6.2 seconds while still netting 23/33 MPG for the 335d and 7.2 seconds and 19/25 MPG, respectively for the X5 xDrive35d.
These ‘Advanced Diesels’ as BMW calls them, incorporate such technology as an aluminum crankcase, third generation common rail diesel direct injection and precise piezo-injectors. While the power and fuel economy are very impressive, more important is that this technology results in a 50-state clean certification, no small feat.
With technology this good, one has to wonder why BMW insisted on choosing the most hideous name possible for the X5 diesel. Both models arrive this fall. Pricing will be announced closer to launch date.
