You know, I do my damndest to keep on top of the latest, breaking automotive news but on some days it's nearly impossible. Although I work hard, I slip up now and then.

So when I saw Porsche's press release that detailed the 2015 model year Cayenne, I was surprised to see that the base Cayenne — the one with the 300 horsepower six-cylinder — has been axed from the lineup. Obviously given how close the all-new Macan and base Cayenne were priced this now clears up some space to differentiate both nameplates.

**The Macan S starts at $49,900 and the least expensive Cayennes are now the diesel model starting at $61,700 or the Cayenne S starting at $74,100.

Of course this means if you've had a hankering for that Cayenne and wanted to do it on the cheap you better RUN to your local Porsche dealer and try to snag a 2014 model year product before they're all sold out of inventories.

This situation makes us wonder: Considering the Macan is a smaller sport-utility vehicle and we know how much Americans like space, will this have YOU looking elsewhere instead of jumping into a base V6 Cayenne? Has Porsche been wise with its strategy or is it too risky?

What say you, Spies?
