Does "F" Stand For "Fantastic"? First Look 2008 Lexus IS-F

Does "F" Stand For "Fantastic"? First Look 2008 Lexus IS-F
It's as if the New York Philharmonic added an "An Evening of Kanye West" to its concert season. Though Lexus has always carefully presented itself as the jewel of the Toyota empire, it's preparing to jettison two decades of heritage with the 2008 Lexus IS-F, a tough-looking car fortified with a 400-horsepower V8 that will challenge the Audi RS4 and BMW M3.
It's the most surprising thing Toyota's luxury division has done since hiring actor James Sloyan to purr out words like "relentless," "pursuit" and "perfection" back in 1989 before it had even sold a single car.

It must stand for "Fast and Furious." Or how about Fugly? I'm sorry, but this thing looks like garbage. Even if it is somewhat competitive, performance-wise, I'd rather buy an inferior car than associate myself with the idiot posers who drive Lexus yawn-mobiles - like the moron with the IS300 who insisted on racing me on I-94 and I-57 today, and got smoked twice while I had 3 people in my car! Grow up Laxus owners.

I agree sweetheart. The IS-F is very bold and macho looking. It has manliness written all over it. The kind of guys driving this car are confident men in their late 10s and early 20s who know what makes a true performance sedan.
Without question the IS-F is the most reliable, best interior (including seats), best brakes, quickest, fastest, most comfortable, best handling and my gosh it looks so hot!
Everytime I see this car I get aroused. It is just so beautiful. Lexus should only sell it in blue. Give me an IS-F and I'll show you guys how to kill an M3 or even a Veyron.

"The kind of guys driving this car are confident men in their late 10s and early 20s who know what makes a true performance sedan."
David- I read that and couldn't help wondering if you were mocking yourself. Very few cars are marketed to people in their teens and early twenties. Cars that are intended for that age group, are generally cheap and not taken seriously by older people. Additionally, 18-24 year olds aren't very good drivers becuase they are young and lack the driving knowledge and experience necessary to identify a "true performance" car. What does all of this say about the Lexus?

Kinger what is there to speculate? We all know that 400 Lexus horsepower equal about 600 German horsepower so technically speaking the German cars are massively underpowered. Let's not forget that the IS-F is the most reliable and durable machine here capable of being driven to the limit on the track without breaking down like BMWs do.

I think Houstoncutie's keyboard is broken. The caps key is stuck. That's what I heard anyway.
Honestly though, I think Lexus has hired an American designer to come up with their new designs. They probably asked, "How can we make this car look over-the-top while trying copy the Germans edgy, provocative styling? And, how can we do this while still preserving our bland, ricey styling cues that our buyers have come to expect and love?"
...and Wah-lah. This is the best they could come up with. The previous generation had more character than this thing. You can compare it to a TSX or G37, but NOT an M3. The M3 is in a whole other league that Lexus will never, ever see.
Above all, it's STILL a Lexus! No matter how hard they try they will never compete with BMW, MB, or Audi on styling or performance. Why settle for a Lexus if you want a performance car?
Lexus NEEDS to worry about DIRECT competitors (Acura and Infinity) in their BACKYARD. They should be the most fearful of HYUNDAI though! That's right, HYUNDAI! They're coming for you!

Thats funny, my 99 323i never had a problem. My 87 325es with over 300,00 abusive miles has yet to show any signs of quitting. I have beat the hell out of that car and not once have I had it in the shop. the engine still runs so smooth that you can rev it to 2,000rpm and not even feel the engine. plus it is great on gas. My 85 745i turbo running 16psi of boost will own any of your cars, and if you want we can line up anyday. 399 rear wheel hp (not at the flywheel) and 496lb/ft torque everything is stock except for a re-programed chip, modified wastegate, cartech FMU rising rate fuel pressure regulator. Take that from a 22 year old car, you wouldn't believe the looks I get burning camaro's mustangs and GTO's (stock to lightly modified) on the highway. anyways I am getting off of the point. BMW's are quited good cars if maintained properly, they aren't like American cars, although they have improved considerably, and BMW's inline 6 engines are bullet proof. I have seen too many with over 300,000 miles on the origional engine and no smoking or burning oil, nothing, and these are much older cars from the 80's.

That was directed to David 989. You can't judge all German cars just lie you can't judge all japanese cars. Mitsubishi has some crappy interior (second generation eclipse for example) and reliability issues, but Honda and Toyota are very dependable, so you can't just bash something just because it isn't japanese you narrow minded idiot. You and houston are ignorant, too young to have the slightest hint at what seperates a enthusiast car from a household apliance/common car. Yes the ISF will be a great car, but not quite up to the //M3. I think it will be close though

But Agent 9 Lexus has continually been the class leader in almost every class.
The LS is the king in its class, so is the IS, LX570, SC430 the GS. The ES has no rivals because the Germans are afraid to touch it. The RX needs an update but it was the best SUV in its class when it was new. Actually I still consider the RX to be the best SUV in its class. Who wants an X5 or ML when you can have a reliable, powerful and quality interior Lexus RX?

David, I can care less if you respect me. I believe I never done anything dishonorable to lose some integrity.

Richie, just remember that Lexus is a true innovator and leader. Other car companies look up to Lexus for inspiration and they benchmark Lexus interiors and build quality.
Rolls Royce recently admitted that they benchmark Toyota Corolla interiors because they're so good. Imagine what would happened if Rolls Royce benchmarked the Lexus LS interior for example. They'd get some respect back!

Tell me how a company that produces quality cars, the best interiors, the most comfortable cars and the quietest and most powerful engines doesn't win comparisons. I'll tell you: bias.
Didn't Car and driver once test the IS350 against the BMW 3 series and the 3 series was unreliable and yet still won? Bias. Pure bias.
