Drop-top Mercedes SLR due "within six months"
Back in March, rumors first broke that Mercedes was considering building a convertible version of its $450,000 SLR supercar. The U.K.'s AutoExpress magazine is now reporting that the car is "well on its way" to entering production, and will be officially unveiled "within six months." That would put the car on target for the Geneva Motor Show in March. The car will take inspiration from the Vision SLR concept, which was first shown ahead of the official SLR coupe launch. AutoExpress says the goal of the SLR convertible is to handle and perform as well as its coupe counterpart. Read Article

I would love a convertible SLR. As well as that car performs it's more of the status symbol behind it (tell me what car over $100K isn't) and I can see it selling well.

The pictures look like they are from the original concepts, if you'll note the exhaust is ported out the back, whereas on the current SLR they are in front of the doors on both sides. I'll be interesting to see how the final turns out.

I actually usually hate that car but I think the drop top version looks pretty decent. For the money though I wouldn't even consider it compared to the competition.

I think if you got this car in black and parked it on some train tracks during the middle of the night it would look better AFTER the train hit it.... it looks cheap the lines are not impresive at all and it would look better as a 450,000 scrap metal pile.... but thats just me... I would take the drop M6 over this thing any day....Ill invest the differance

Look Guys
That is one Stunning Vehicle as anyone who has seen an SLR CloseUp will tell you.
The Drop Top will have even more WOW Factor although marginally less performance. The reason the SLR sold so well was the everyday driveability factor. many owners drove theirs every other day on average with some using it everyday with no problems. The Ferraris and lamborghinis are not everyday cars and they sure dont have Space in the trunk for Golf Bags

It looks really nice, but I think it is a little overpriced. I would rrather take a Murcielago or Gallardo convt. Or maybe a Rolls-Royce convt based on the 101EX

this isn't a pic of the real slr, this was released prior to the slr being sold and is a concept.
explains the lack of side exhausts, and the fact that there is a convertible
and the car doesn't loook right, nose is too low.

I had read in MB's Star Magazine that Mercedes and McLaren were having a falling out and were splitting. But being that they are still joined for the roadster, seems they have worked things out, or perhaps they're waiting for the contract to expire?

Anyone know more about this?
