EDMUNDS.COM SHOOTOUT: 2007 BMW M6 VS. 2007 Mercedes-Benz CLK63 AMG Black
If the 2007 Mercedes-Benz CLK63 AMG Black Series and 2007 BMW M6 could talk trash, things would get ugly in a hurry.

The big-bore Benz would snort something about its 465 pound-feet of grunt, the kind of power that would leave the Bimmer's flame-surfaced sheet metal in a smoldering pile on the road. The high-strung M6 would make a remark about the Benz's boy-racer fender flares, silly bodywork vents and decidedly uncivilized exhaust note.

I'd take the M6 as a daily driver, but the CLK AMG Black is obviously the better performance machine, because it was designed to be.

I love BMW, but that CLK is pure bad ass. Have to go CLK here.

Well, duh, if I had an A8 or something on the side I'd take the CLK. But if I had to have one car to drive on a day-by-day- it would be the M6.

Those test drivers at Edmunds really should know how to drive. Their acceleration times are rubbish. And I still don't get the point of the "skidpad".

Anyway, out of these 2 cars I would chose the Merc.

I just love that AMG V8!

Wait where is the 911t, and F430? Ditch the M6 in this comparo, and bring in the real competition.

It's a BMW VS. MERCEDES comparison. They're RIVALS.

its interesting test if not totally pointless, its like comparing a race car for the street, with a heavy luxury gt, kinda like comparing bmw m3 csl to a jaguar xkr, or lancer evolution to a chrysler 300c, they are 2 totally different car segments the fact that the 0-60 times are so close is a amazing i figured the mercedes would have left the m6 out to dry with its reduced weight smaller size and more torque. not much of a mercedes but i would love to drive this car i bet its amazing, but i cant imagine paying as much as this thing will cost for a 2 door c class

No, this isn't so far-fetched. The CLK Black is certainly not a stripper car. They're both heavy (BMW weighs four pounds LESS, if you read the article), they're both luxurious and they're both fast.

no it doesnt make sense the clk is essentially a track car, again similar to the m3 csl, not the m6, which is the reason why it is missing the 2 rear seats, and the m6 coupes remain. no matter how many people mercedes can convince the clk is otherwise... it is a overpriced c class coupe that actually costs less to build than the c class, the only thing these 2 cars have common is power and 2 doors....

CLK black is much more desireable and exclusive. If I wanted a daily driver, I think a normal CLK550 or 650 would be better suited. Going to this level is about performance and getting noticed. AMG Black = CSL, and this ain't no CSL.

Well, they're both exclusive! At this price, if it's exclusivity you're looking for, I'd get an AM V8 Vantage.

Supra

The CLK black is a track car while the M6 is a monsterous gt cruiser, so basically tour speaking out of your ass. The BMW M3 CSL beats almost all of the AMGs on the racetrack.

The M6 is (I repeat) four pounds lighter than the CLK63 Black, according to the article.

One question- why is the CLK63 AMG BLACK available in other colors than black?

I know the CLK is heavier, but its a trackcar! Like a CSL version in BMW language. And dont tell me its not lighter than the normal version because it is. (MB tried to make it light but as usual they ended up with a heavy car *look at the SLR*)

The MB is a track car that wants to be a luxury car. And the M6 is a luxury car that wants to be a track car. Which is ironic, cause between MB and BMW, it use to be the other way around. It's just another bit of evidence that BMW is losing it's edge with heavy bloated cars. The new M3 is gonna be a portly car too.

In the meantime as long as us German Phagboys (I own a BMW 6) are debating which German company dominates the world of performance cars. None of us bother to look that it's the Subbie's and the Evo's that are the true everyday performance cars, what BMW **once was** in the 70's.

The CLK is better machine but the shape is getting old, I'll take the M6, as for the IS-F, I'd take the new NSX anyday.

The BMW M6 is the best luxury sportscar! The Mercedes CLK ist only a heavy small "AMG Pimp Car". It`s to heavy. You can make easy burnouts ...
Only for cruising not for driving. The AMG V8 engine is a old tec. engine.
Note: The new Corvette LS3 engine is better. The LS7 V8 is the best V8 engine!
