Every Toyota will have hybrid option in 2020
Toyota was one of the first carmakers to announce plans to eventually launch hybrid versions of its entire lineup when in May last year powertrain chief Masatami Takimoto said hybrids will be the standard drivetrain and account for “100 percent” of Toyota’s cars. Those earlier comments have now been backed up by company president Katsuaki Watanabe, who said Toyota will offer petrol-hybrid cars throughout its lineup in the long term.
Speaking at a press event in Geneva, Watanabe said he hopes “to offer a hybrid version of each model in the 2020s.” The key reason to increase its hybrid offering, according to Watanabe, is part of the carmake.imize the negative impact of cars on the environment

I thought Toyota said last year that their whole entire line-up was going to be Hybrid standard on all their cars to meet government regulations? Did they change their mind? Now their talking about making them optional
I wondering if the non-hybrids will meet the government regulations at 35mpg and the hybrids are going to be at least 50mpg?
Are this article title contradicts what it's trying to mean:
"Watanabe said he hopes “to offer a hybrid version of each model in the 2020s"
Did that mean discounting the non-hybrid models?

dude, I posted stating that Toyota are aiming to have all of toyota cars to have hybrid as an option on all of their cars in the near future.
this is nothing new.
Anyhow, i think its a good move. Each and every new generation hybrid motor is going to obviously improve and improve.

To meet the "corporate average" of 35 mpg, they will offer both hybrid and standard modes. Standard Trucks and SUV's, large cars will still get in the 20-25 mpg range, while the hybrids at 35,45, and 50 balance out the scale to meet the 35mpg average requirement.

well we have yet to tap the power of lithium batteries.
if we stick with Nickle (which wont be for long) we'd all be driver <200 horsepower cars. the future will be interesting.

I think every automaker will be completly hybrid by 2020. Even though hybrids are stupid and overpriced.
