Though I am not a truck kind of guy, I have to say that I can spot when a significant hurdle has been reached. Since around February Ford has offered the F-150 pickup with the EcoBoost, 3.5-liter turbocharged V6.
I think it's safe to say that folks weren't certain about how a V6 would do on the market but according to The Detroit News, the EcoBoost F-Series is currently doing extremely well. So well, in fact, it surpassed 100,000 units sold as of this past week. In addition there are two (!) further points that prove how important this is and displays that there is a paradigm shift going on here:
1) The last time Ford sold that many pick ups with a V6 was in 1985.
2) The take rate for an EcoBoost has been approximately 40 percent since MAY.
That's a strong showing, especially when trucks are some of the least fuel efficient products on the road next to the likes of super cars.
