Gas prices fell heading into the unofficial end of summer and are poised to continue to decline going into fall, barring a weather disruption or sudden spike by oil-producing countries.

The price for a gallon of gasoline in South Carolina dropped 2.1 cents during the past week to an average of $1.93 Monday, according to gas price service GasBuddy. Motor club AAA puts the price a penny higher. That’s about 3.3 cents less than this time last year across the Palmetto State, which continues to offer the lowest gasoline prices in the nation, thanks in part to the state’s low fuel tax.

Nationally, the price declined 2.9 cents during the past week to an average of $2.19 per gallon, according to both gas price services.
