Jeep's Twitter account was hacked Tuesday, its iconic logo replaced with a Cadillac emblem and a message stating that the brand had been sold to General Motors Co.'s luxury division.

A Twitter feed associated with the hacktivist group Anonymous appeared to take responsibility for the attack, but there was no way of confirming that, as the group does not have any official spokespeople.

Whoever took control of Jeep's Twitter account had been posting messages — some of them obscene — stating that 50 Cent would never ride in the brand's products and accusing Jeep executives of drug use.
