2016 Volvo XC90AWD T6 is a triumph and an enormous surprise. The big new SUV makes Volvo a significant player in the luxury market and suggests the rest of the world's automakers should take Chinese automakers very seriously.

The XC90 is the first vehicle Volvo developed since Chinese automaker Geely bought the Swedish brand from Ford during the Great Recession. It introduces a new architecture and a new family of engines that will be the backbone of the all the brand's future vehicles.

Volvo's engineers were out of practice developing new vehicles, so it's widely suspected that Lotus and Porsche engineering consultants helped develop the architecture and engine.
