Hulk Hogan's son seriously injured in car crash
The son of professional wrestler Hulk Hogan was seriously injured in a car crash Sunday night, police said.

A Toyota Supra driven by Nick Bollea was traveling at a high rate of speed at approximately 7:30 p.m., Clearwater Police spokesman Wayne Shelor said. Bollea, which is Hogan's real name, lost control and hit a raised median. The car flipped around, and the back end hit a palm tree.

"The car was destroyed," Shelor said.

Bollea and an unidentified male passenger were extricated from the car by paramedics, Shelor said. Then they were airlifted to Bayfront Medical Center in St. Petersburg.

First, I hope he's ok. Car crashes are awful things! But, I hate the promotion of the idea that speed kills. Going fast doesn't make you crash... weaving in traffic, passing left lane bandits who switch lanes, losing traction from poor vehicle control, ect are causes of crashes. Speed alone doesn't cause crashes and somehow it always gets blamed.

Hope hes ok. From that screen shot, it looks pretty bad.

Threepoint - It could have been the road. Speeding over bumps, uneven road could be one of the things include that you listed.

Politicians and the insurance companies would like you to believe that speed kills. They misuse statistics to use this as an excuse to raise insurance rates for younger drivers and those who are unlucky enough to have been caught in a speed trap by the police.

If we are serious about cutting road fatalities and injuries, we should build better roads, fix up our collapsing infrastructures like old bridges and encourage motorists to maintain their vehicles and use good tires. Motorists with vehicles that have superior tires and handling characteristics should be given special licence plates (after inspection and certification) that would allow them to exceed posted highway speeds by 10, 15 or even 20 m.p.h. -- that would ultimately reduce road fatalities and injuries and save the courts a lot of time. Police could then concentrate on catching criminals instead of wasting their scarce resources hounding motorists.

Lo-life punks who drag race on public roads and horse around half drunk while driving should have their vehicles confiscated and drivers licences suspended for a minimum of 5 years.

That would pretty much provoke speeding wouldnt it? "Officer I got the special licence plate. It allows me to exceed the speed limit. Why are you looking angry at me officer?" Fact is any car can crash or get into a accident. You got superior tires? Great! World class handling? Awesome! But its just not enough when the DRIVER is in control of the car. There are so many other things that come into play when your driving. Weather, other cars, people, construction, blind spots. You can be the safest driver in the world with the top notch equipment, doesnt mean it can prevent someone else from crashing into you.

I should also point out, despite all the accidents by road, or wreckeless driving, simply boils down to the driver. He or she should know not to talk on the cell or speed or do anything that would endanger thier own life just to gossip over Lindsay Lohan. Only exception I find, and I may be wrong, is a faulty car. Something I bet some of us cant tell or see unless the car is taken apart.
