I think it's safe to say that 2015 may be the year of the Chevrolet Corvette Z06. Although my contact tells me that it's unlikely the Z06 will find it's way into the press fleet — which is hard to believe given the amount of work that went into it and the company was loaning out the C6 ZR1 — we're sure it will get into the right hands for testing purposes. After all, General Motors has something to prove here.

If not for itself, for America who's always been doubted as a serious contender when it comes to high-end sports cars.

Unfortunately though, we've already heard of the first casualty. Thankfully, it is not of a person or a vehicle that got totaled, it's of one of the all-new Z06's powerplants. It went kablooey.

This isn't a huge surprise in the high-performance world. Remember all those 2001-2002 E46 M3's that had motors giving out left and right? How about all those European sports cars that self immolate? It happens, now and then.

There is good news though! The owner of said Z06 received an all-new motor free of charge and will be up and running in NO time! Kudos to GM for doing as it should!

Lawdogg tells us on the forum that last Friday, Dec. 26, he experienced catastrophic engine failure in is new, unmodified Z06 with only 891 miles on the odometer. “I was out putting some more miles on the car to get ready for my track event at Road Atlanta Jan. 10 and 11,” Lawdogg said. “While making a pull from 35 mph, I accelerated and shifted short of redline, and boom — the car began knocking. I pulled over and popped the hood. I could hear a loud knock coming from the No. 6 cylinder area along with a serious, grinding, metal-on-metal sound coming from the supercharger area..."
