The Ford F-150 Raptor was a tremendous success. Who knew that SO many people wanted a hardcore, dune-hopping F-150? Apparently Ford did.

This had led to an all-new generation Raptor debuting at the 2015 Detroit Auto Show as well as Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) bringing out the RAM Rebel. So, where's General Motors in this mix?

According to trademark filings there already exists a Z71 Trail Boss. Obviously, we haven't seen the fruits of that effort yet. In addition, last week a trademark was filed for a GM truck to be called the "Badlands."

Given the nomenclature over at GM, I think it may be safe to say that the Z71 Trail Boss would be a Chevrolet variant and the Badlands may just be a GMC truck.

As of now this is pure speculation but we'll be keeping our eyes out for all-new spy shots as well as any spy news that may creep up on these two trademarks.


General Motors has filed an application to register the term “Badlands” as a trademark with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), GM Authority has discovered.

The automaker’s February 16th, 2015 filing carries serial number 86535743 and specifies that the mark will be used for “Motor land vehicles, namely, trucks..."
