A southwestern Ohio judge yesterday ordered a halt to a speeding-ticket blitz in a village that installed traffic cameras, saying it’s “a scam” against motorists.

Hamilton County Common Pleas Judge Robert Ruehlman blasted the cameras and the thousands of $105 citations that resulted. He ruled that they violate motorists’ constitutional rights to due process and said the village’s enforcement was stacked against drivers.

How many free market enterprises do you know have the ability to charge motorists with fines and threaten them with Jail or Convictions if they do not pay these fines ?

Last i checked, it required GOVERNMENTAL AUTHORISATION to do those things.

If you drive in coutries outside the US you'll find that traffic enforcement cameras are very common. Speeding tickets are very easy to get in Australia. You'll even get tickets in Germany if your front bumper is over the line at a red stop light. People who live in these countries don't seem to get a lot of tickets. If they do they'll not only get fined but also lose points. If they lose enough points in a given period of time then they have to stop driving for a period of time. Overall they follow the rules of the road a lot better than people in the US do. This, in turn, leads to a safer driving environment.

In the US people don't like rules that limit their individual freedoms. Since is hard to argue against photographic evidence of wrongdoing there obviously must be something wrong with the process, not the individual who was driving.
