If you're not aware, Land Rover's all-new Discovery Sport is slated to take on the usual suspects in the entry-level luxury sport-utility vehicle class. From what we're already seeing, it's pretty clear the Porsche Macan is doing quite alright as it stands.

While the Discovery Sport's received a bit of positive feedback for its sleek, premium-looking exterior, the interior hasn't faired out so well. There's a good reason for this. It's bland, at best.

There is good news though if you're a utilitarian or safety freak. Europe's equivalent of the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, NCAP, has crash tested the all-new Discovery Sport and it wound up with a nice five star rating. The same goes for the Macan, which walked away with high honors.

So, if you were already interested in either ride, you now are armed with some facts for the wife to seal the deal. ;)


Land Rover's new Freelander replacement, the Discovery Sport, also got the highest rating, thanks in part to its standard autonomous emergency braking. The Porsche Macan achieved five stars, despite being criticised for not offering that feature as standard.
