Man's '91 Chevy pickup passes the 1M-mile mark
GRESHAM, Wis. - Frank Oresnik's trusty pickup truck — he calls it "the old girl" — passed the 1 million-mile mark with a camera crew filming the event and a public-radio audience listening in. "I can't tell you how much fun it was," he said. "It was really humbling, all this interest."

Recent news stories told how Oresnik had just 1,200 miles to go before reaching the milestone in the 1991 Chevrolet Silverado that he bought with 41,000 miles on it in 1996 and used in his business, distributing seafood and steaks in the upper Midwest.

At the time, he was getting his latest oil change — the kind of regular maintenance he credits with helping to keep the truck going so long.

He said he's had the truck's oil changed more than 300 times. It's had so many changes that the oil pan drain plug had to be rethreaded several times, he said, and "you never hear of that."

He passed the million-mile mark Friday in southeastern Wisconsin while on his way back home to Catawba, located in the north in Price County, about an hour west of Rhinelander. He was on County Highway V southeast of Fond du Lac.

One reason I bought a Chevy Silverado =) Hmmm...how many other makes reached 1M miles??? Dodge Ram has a 1M truck. Volvo has a Volvo P1800 reach 2.5M. Saab had a 1M car. MB had a 2.8M car - 1976 Mercedes-Benz 240D Taxi. Anyone recall a Japanese 1M car?

Good story, but nice way to take a crack at Japanese manufacturers. In today's world it's called initial quality where cars are only kept for no more than 5-10 years before they are sold or traded.

I am not saying Jap cars are the best. But I am sure there are Civics out there with plenty of miles on it.

The most unreliable car in the world can get to a million miles if you dump enough money into it.

well Japanese cars may not have reached 1 mil but on AVERAGE they last longer so what will it be? I buy a Chevy that has a 1 in a billion chance to reach 1 mil km or do i buy Japanese that will most likely reach 200,000km? I'm not saying that new german/american cars are not reliable in the short term 3-7 years (pretty much all cars are fine during that time frame except lemons here and there) but more than that would be taking a risk compared to the japanese who have had a consistent record of being more reliable in the long term. If the new batch of german/american cars prove reliable in the long term than i guess I'll trust them aswell. The only reason i'm not ready to fully trust them is because they have not proven it so far but everyday i'm trusting them a little more.

The fact remains japanees cars dont last any longer then american cars its a very false conception, also their was a saab that hit a milliom miles last year with just regular maintince also.

If it has a lot of miles, you know it's a great car with passion and soul. Well probably to the owner the most.

My '91 Cavalier has 50,000 miles on it, and it's in perfect condition. My GMC suburban had 225,000 miles on it when I sold it, and it too was in perfect condition.

Change your oil, drive it with respect and keep it clean, and your Chevy WILL last forever, They aren't like anything else built.

One huge factor - he's in the south - no Salt to destroy the steel. He must live far from the shore as well.
