I love the complete and utter disconnect between civil engineering in Europe vs. the U.S.

Our response the Europe's 20+ year history of high speed trains? "Studies are being done." Yeah, like the one that Schwarzeneger just all-but shut down in California? You know, the 2-hour train that would shuffle riders between San Francisco and LA for $45...no one would be interested in THAT...

if this project is still where it is now, we have to thank the bush admin and the petrol lobby for delaying the budget affection till after november 2008... then they'll have ruined the states in wars, so any president will have to cut financing anything ...
as for the spin about the 35-hrs week, in France we have the brains to do in 35 hrs what others need 45hrs to do, and still have awesome social security, and less debt than the states....
so if we effectively do drop the 35hrs week, so people are gonna have to worry about their asses, but i think that the people will refuse that and manifest after the presidential elections... as you know a law needs to be decreeted and circulated before it goes into application, so this is an electoral manoeuvre by the right wing gov actually in place...

remember he 50 million poor people in the states, besides, i don't know where you get that, but there are no weekly riots, they happened once, and for having been thru them, allow me to say they are the deed of bastards who need no excuse to riot or whatever gets them the attention they want... learn a bit about how France is the country of equal rights and then get back to me! i hate to tell you this, but for having lived in the states for 3 years, i can tell you you have a long way to go before you can even be compared to france, or europe for that matter, socially speaking of course, because wild capitalism has become a goal in itself and has eaten any social network there has ever been... compare what health care costs in france and what it costs in the states, and then let's argue... france is the only country where you can't be fired because your boss wants to make more money, after you've worked your ass off to get his business started and making profits, and that is only one of quite a few examples why france is so ahead of the states in this area
I loved the states, still do, but that's mainly because my parents are really rich, and that is a condition to living decently in the US
