The new Mercedes AMG GT has been revealed, complete with an SLS-inspired silhouette, a stunning design and a brand new turbocharged 4.0-litre V8. It becomes the flagship sports car in Mercedes’ range but isn’t a direct replacement for the SLS, focusing instead on rivaling models like the Porsche 911 Turbo and Jaguar F-Type R.

The new sports car will be offered from launch in two flavours: the GT and the GT S. Both are powered by the same engine but where the GT gets a 456bhp version, the GT S is upgraded to 503bhp. Power is delivered to the rear wheels through a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox, with the GT S able to accelerate from 0-62mph in 3.8 seconds and the GT two-tenths behind that.
