Mercedes Records Record Sales In January
Coming off its fourteenth year of consecutive sales growth, Mercedes-Benz USA (MBUSA) today reported sales of 18,275 new vehicles for January 2008, up 7.1 percent from last January, marking the best January sales in the company’s history.

Strong demand in both the Mercedes SUV and coupes and convertibles categories fueled the increase in sales volume for the month.  As a group, sales of Mercedes-Benz SUVs rose 23.1 percent (6,167 vs. 5,011 units), boosted by an M-Class sales increase of 37.7 percent (3,237 vs. 2,351 units).  The R-Class also contributed to the momentum with sales of 1,005 units, a 19.9 percent increase over last January.  The popularity of Mercedes-Benz coupes and convertibles was demonstrated by a 21.2 percent sales increase for the SLK-Class (480 vs. 396 units), a 19.1 percent increase in the CLK-Class (1,223 vs. 1,027 units), and a 5.4 percent increase in SL-Class (389 vs. 369 units).

Other highlights include strong performance of the C-Class model line, which was the volume leader with sales of 4,647 units, an increase of 18.3 percent over last January’s 3,928 units.

Separately, the Mercedes-Benz Certified Pre-Owned vehicle program reported sales of 3,624 units, an increase of 0.4 percent compared to last January.

A healthy mix throughout their lineup. The CLS tanking isn't a surprise, but what's going on with the S-class (aside from the LS)?

The CLS is hardly "tanking." It didn't sell in the thousands last year, and it's not doing that this year either. It's a big percent difference, but not very different in real numbers.

Am I the only one who thinks it strange that the CLK and M are both up so much this month? The CLK is dangerously close to the end of its life, and the M is... well... kind of boring.

Anyway, C-Class sales are impressive, as are G-Wagen sales (LOL). The GL sold the exact same. Funny. I should've bought one, to change that.

something is simply NOT RIGHT with the chart.

aside from no raw figures, the % change by month and for the year are IDENTICAL.

statistically, VERY IMPROBABLE to downright IMPOSSIBLE.

i'm not saying there were not sales increases/decreases. but the chart simply CANNOT be right, with two columns of IDENTICAL figures.

its identical because the sales figures are based on the same change.

they are both based only on January of this year and last. once it gets to feb, then the second column will change, but until then, its only 1 month of comparison for both Jan 08/Jan 07 and YTD08/YTD07. Its not impossible, its just statistics.

S4,
130 unit drop from just over 600 is a big difference, even if its a small margin. If they sold in the thousands, it wouldn't matter but it doesn't.

Just like the S-Class, 1/5th of their sales vanished for some reason.

Why is that people here don't seem to understand that a car, any car always drops as time goes by. The S-Class still sells well, but they aren't going to be able to move 2500-3000 a month forever. This is a NATURAL thing for it to drop compared to last year. The car actually came out in Feb of 2006 so it has really been on the market for 2 years now, even if 2008 is on its second model year. Same thing happened with the Lexus GS, IS and LS. Did the Lexus fanatics here see where the Lexus LS dropped 36 PERCENT last month compared to 2007?!?!

Does anybody know why the E-Class and S-Class is down 20%+?
